Still life stencil with flowers for printing
Next, a digital stencil of the still life was made using Photoshop filters. I don’t remember exactly what I used, but it seems like highlighting the edges and then converting it to black and white. Special care is not needed here; such a drawing is quite enough to transfer it to canvas, using it as a ready-made template. The outlines of the flowers, the vase, and all the details are clearly visible, but nothing more is required.
Yes, my painting is much larger than A4 size, this was intended at the very beginning, so I enlarged what I got to the size I needed, and then cut it into two parts to print them separately on a printer. Below you see first the upper and then the lower details of the overall design of the drawing.
In order not to confuse anything and to accurately align the two sheets, I placed three thick black circles at the junction. You will see them if you carefully look at the lower photos. They are convenient to navigate when connecting them together, so that the lines connecting flowers, petals, etc. do not get mixed up. I usually glue the parts together with tape on the back side.
The lower two contour diagrams, which together make up the still life, can be enlarged, copied and printed - use it for your health if you need it.
Here are the main outlines of the still life that I ended up with. I made the wooden frame myself, from some pieces of wood like baseboards, it didn’t turn out too well, I decided not to put it on public display, and cut it off in the photo. So far I haven’t gotten around to redoing it or buying a new one.
How to draw a still life for beginners
Acrylic paints are known to dry very quickly on canvas. On the one hand, this is a plus, but on the other, a minus - you don’t get beautiful smooth color transitions, like in oil painting. But for abstract interior works like this one, with clear contour boundaries, this material is perfect.
You can use any stencils for a still life (as well as for other genres of painting), for stained glass painting, mosaics - everything will do. If there are a lot of details on the stencil, but you don’t have a color picture, then I advise you to experiment in Photoshop or any other simple graphics editor to create a color sketch; it will be much more convenient to work with it. It is desirable that one element does not border on others that have the same or similar shade, and on the computer you can simply change this - make a “fill”. It will be easier to draw using a well-developed template - look at the sample and choose the appropriate acrylic.
Look at the flower petals - they are all different in color, if they are all the same, then the drawing will look flat and uninteresting.
Remember, when you were a child, you may have enjoyed coloring pictures in special coloring books. Here in our still life it’s the same. You can do it! And if in doubt, call your children for help.
