And finally decided to buy. Initially, I wanted a pink shelving unit to match the IKEA Ekby Karl shelf, which I really like. But there was still not enough money, and while we were saving money, the pink Kallax racks disappeared from sale. They were in the catalog a couple of years ago. And now there are new items - crazy bright yellow and dark green. The dark green shade is not very pleasant in my personal opinion. The yellow IKEA Kallax shelving unit is rich, juicy, beautiful, but very bright. It’s perfect for a playroom or kindergarten, but for the home I want something quieter. Moreover, shelving in dark green and yellow colors is much more expensive. Whether because of the color, or because these are new items, I don’t know... But a white rack costs 4,300 rubles, and a yellow one costs 7,000 rubles. In general, I had to take the IKEA Kallax rack in universal white color (there is also a black-brown, very dark color on sale). The rack is packaged in one flat box, like all products in IKEA. Kallax shelving is manufactured in Russia. The rack is made of chipboard, not solid wood, but has considerable weight. A package with a rack for 8 sections weighs 31 kg. The edges of all parts on the front side are covered with a plastic edge, the joints are carefully processed. But those sides of the shelves that are inside are not treated with anything. Chipboard is chipboard, sawdust falls off a lot, so before starting assembly we painted the edges of all the shelves to prevent sawdust from falling off. You can coat the edges with glue. The rack is assembled, one might say, without nails. Only the frame - the outer walls of the rack - is fastened with bolts, and the internal partitions are fixed with wooden choppers. All the choppers are neat and smooth, but some of them have difficulty fitting into the drilled holes. Some shelves had to be driven in with a hammer (through a rag). The kit includes all the necessary fittings, as well as fastenings for fixing the rack to the wall. Some of the chops had to be trimmed, because they did not fit the diameter of the holes at all. Not everything goes smoothly with the drilled holes either. They are drilled carefully and precisely in the right places - millimeter by millimeter. But many of the holes were clogged with debris. So before assembling the rack I had to dig deeper :) The outer walls are fastened with Euroscrews, they screw in smoothly and do not stick out. All frame parts fit well together, there are no gaps. The rack stands level on the floor and does not wobble. But in some places there were gaps between the internal partitions; we were unable to fit them very tightly to each other. But these gaps are insignificant, less than a millimeter. The height of the rack is about one and a half meters. The width of the rack for 8 sections is 77 cm. The dimensions of one cell are 40x40 cm. Furniture at IKEA is universal, so you can choose suitable sized drawers or inserts with doors for this rack. You can put a large box in one cell or two small boxes on top of each other. We plan to supplement the rack with inserts with doors, but for now we make do with plastic containers. An insert with a door costs from 900 rubles and above. Expensive... In general, there is nothing complicated in assembling the rack, everything is clear in the instructions. I had to tinker with adjusting the chops. And it’s so simple, my husband and I assembled two racks in the evening. We bought shelves at lunchtime, and by nightfall they were already in the room. The Kallax shelving unit is a good solution for zoning a large room. Thanks to the open sections, they look easy in the center of the room without cluttering the space. All the outer edges of the rack are processed so that it can be placed on either side. You can put it against the wall, or across the room. And from any side the rack will look good and neat.
