Interior door designs

Depending on the method of opening, doors are classified into several types. Mechanisms for opening interior doors are a whole cascade of possibilities for a seemingly ordinary task. Today, various door opening mechanisms without handles are highly valued. This is because they simplify the task and can look more aesthetically pleasing and even creative, which is what a modern room requires.

Scheme

Swing

A classic of the genre - swing doors. Their peculiarity lies in their ease of installation and low cost, depending on the canvas. Swing doors are the oldest method of opening. It consists in the fact that fittings are attached to a special box into which part of the door leaf fastening is inserted. Thus, the hinges hold the doors, and their running mechanism allows you to freely open and close the structure.

Hinged doors can be double or single, have additional leaves and various decorative finishes. At the moment, this is the only safe and reliable type of door opening for the entrance system.

Doors can be right-handed or left-handed. It all depends on the requirements of the premises. But usually the canvases allow, if something happens, to install loops on one side or the other. The same goes for the box.

Types of interior doors

So, let’s first look at the types of interior doors, which are classified by material. The most common option for interior doors, both before and today, remains a wooden door. Wood is the most environmentally friendly and useful material. It is known that wood has powerful energy, which helps strengthen and develop human bioenergy, protects against negativity and develops only a positive biofield.

Solid wood door

An interior door made of solid wood looks very beautiful and always inspires warmth and comfort. A natural wooden door, even with its smell, gives the owners a certain warm feeling, confidence and comfort. Such a door will please the owners for a long time and will last a long time if handled carefully. The only disadvantage of a solid wooden door is its high price . However, the buyer will not regret the money spent, because the quality of a wooden door will always demonstrate its positive aspects.

Basically, in residential premises only doors are installed, mainly from natural wood, since it has natural ventilation properties. Wooden doors can “breathe” and thus provide natural ventilation.

Veneered door

Veneered interior doors spread on the market in the twentieth century and became very popular among the population due to their relatively low price, natural material, lightness and good quality. From the outside, the leaf of such a door is covered with an MDF sheet, after which a special hot pressing technology secures the MDF sheets with a solid veneer plate.

Laminated door

Laminated interior doors and PVC doors are also popular today. PVC doors (polyvinyl chloride doors) are much cheaper and are available to almost all segments of the population. They are covered with a special film that is resistant to mechanical damage, moisture resistant and does not deteriorate due to sudden temperature changes . Another advantage of such doors is that PVC is a very light material. Such doors do not burden the door hinges with their weight, which allows the product to be used much longer.

Metal-plastic door

However, today there are many people who prefer to install metal-plastic doors at home as interior doors. Of course, metal-plastic doors have sound-proofing and heat-insulating function , but such doors can contribute to dampness in the room due to the fact that, unlike wooden doors, they do not have ventilation properties. Basically, metal-plastic doors are installed in living rooms to match the color of the wood.

Sliding

These are several options that are a modern solution to saving space. Indeed, swing doors have a certain angle. The radius of their opening must be free of any objects or things. The fact is that for a spacious room this is quite normal. But if we are talking about small rooms, it is sliding doors that will save space.

Sliding systems have an average complexity design. Slats are inserted into the grooves of the door opening mechanism, along which rollers then “ride” to open the door. Such doors can have several designs. They differ:

  • External sliding doors. This is a system that is installed inside the opening. Doors can consist of several leaves. One can be fixed and the other perform all functions, or both leaves can be used. It all depends on the preferences of the owners and the technical capabilities of the room.
  • Pencil case. These are single-leaf doors. The system is installed inside the opening. Moreover, if in a compartment the doors were “found” one on top of the other, then in the “pencil case” type the door panel goes into the wall up to the handle. As a result, such doors are not even visible if they are open. A good solution where it is important that the canvas is hidden. Quite often, such doors are installed in a false plasterboard wall.

Such interior doors are a good solution for bedrooms and living rooms. For example, with a wide opening, you can install shutters on both sides, as a result, the doors will close in the middle of the opening. In principle, such designs provide considerable flights of imagination when organizing a room and renovating it. They fit perfectly into any design due to their unobtrusiveness. Perhaps this is what accounts for their popularity.

Rotary

These are modern designs in which the doors are located on a conventional axis and rotate around it. They are easy to use, do not require handles and are equally easy to open on both sides. It is the rotary doors that can be automatic and opened using a control unit specially installed on the wall or using a remote control. Rotary doors may differ in door leaf and rotation direction.

Installation of rotary doors, as well as a set of them, will cost a lot. The thing is that, despite its simplicity, the mechanism is quite complex, requiring a professional approach to installation. In fact, the entire design includes two main types of mechanism: sliding and hinged. First, the canvas “rides” along the installed slats, then wraps around an axis. It should be noted right away that this is not the best option to save space. But for a large room such doors will look very impressive.

Pendulum

Another method of opening doors, which can be automatic or mechanical. Pendulum doors are mounted on special hangers that open the door by swinging it to the side. Typically these doors have a strong retaining mechanism that allows the door to swing open quickly but slowly return to its original position. Such designs also require enough space.

In conclusion, let's summarize. The most inexpensive options would be swing doors, depending on the cost of the door panels, of course. But if you need to save space, you won’t find better compartment or accordion doors.

Folding

This type of door can also have several varieties. The folding mechanism itself is the same, but the designs may differ significantly. There are two main design options:

  • Book. In this case, the entire door consists of two wide panels that fold like a book thanks to a special mechanism.
  • Harmonic. The name of this type also characterizes the design. Accordion doors have many narrow slats that fold up like a curtain. Such doors are often made of plastic, quite lightweight and easy to handle. The doors are held in place by a magnet.

Folding doors are a good solution for spacious large rooms and, accordingly, large openings. The only not very high indicator is noise insulation. Since the doors are fastened only on one side, and when closing they have a small but clear gap, sound insulation will not be at a low level.

Choose the doors you like from the catalog and we will install it for you in one of eight ways.

1 SWING

An ordinary door, which is installed in 90% of cases. The set of such a door includes: Door leaf, platbands, door frame, hinges, handle, latch. If the wall thickness is more than 70 mm, then additional additions will be required. Swing doors can be double-leaf, symmetrical or asymmetrical. See the catalog of interior doors >>>

PENDULUM

This is a swing door that opens in both directions in the direction of movement.
Any door from the door catalog can be installed as a swing door. The difference from a regular swing door is that to install a swing door, special spring door hinges are used, which are also called bar hinges. Such doors are installed mainly in restaurants and cafes between the kitchen and the hall. See the catalog of pendulum doors >>>

INVISIBLE

A hidden invisible door is a swing door in the color of the wall, which is mounted in the opening using an aluminum door frame and a hidden hinge. We offer two options for invisible doors: with an aluminum edge, and cheaper without an edge.

COUPE

The classic version of sliding doors.
Any door from our door catalog can be installed as a sliding sliding door. To do this, you need to select the door you are interested in from the catalog. Instead of door frames, choose 3 extensions along the width of the wall. Select a set of rollers and a guide for compartment doors, handles for sliding doors. If you need compartment doors to be closed, then you need to add another extension and handles for sliding doors with a lock to the kit.

Compartment doors can be double-leaf. To do this, buy a longer guide, another set of rollers and, if necessary, a synchronizer can be used for synchronous opening.

PENCIL CASE

Pencil doors are sliding doors, the leaf of which slides into the wall.
To do this, a niche is created in the wall using a door cassette into which the door leaf is slid. Almost any door from the catalog can be installed using this opening method. The main difficulty in such doors is to make a door frame from a regular door frame for a pencil case. Read more about pencil case doors in this material. See the catalog of pencil case doors >>>

ROTARY

A rotary door is a kind of symbiosis of a swing and sliding door. The door leaf moves to the side and at the same time rotates around its axis. This door saves space and opens in both directions. The basis for this opening is a rotary mechanism on which any door can be installed.

BOOK

A folding door-book is installed in an opening with a minimum width of 900 mm and consists of two panels 400 mm wide. Any door model that is manufactured with a width of 400 mm can be installed as a folding door. The equipment differs only in the fittings. You need a kit for folding doors and special furniture handles with a hook.

COMPACT

The Compact folding door, like a book, consists of two panels with a minimum width of 400 mm.
Doors of this type of opening not only fold, but when folded they are pressed against the wall, freeing up the opening. See compact door catalog >>>

Classification of doors by opening method

The class of interior doors is also determined by the design of the mechanics of the locking device. Taking this parameter into account, doors can be classified as swing, sliding, folding, rotating and pendulum opening systems.

  • swing doors are traditional doors of simple design that are found in almost every room and can be equipped with one or two door leaves.
  • Sliding doors – fit perfectly into the interior of a small room or a room with limited space where the door filling is installed. A sliding door system is the most rational solution for saving space, since the door leaf moves along the wall and does not require the necessary radius of opening freedom, as is the case with a swing structure. A significant uncomfortable feature of sliding doors is their low sound insulation.
  • Pendulum opening door designs are doors that can open outwards and inwards. Previously, pendulum-opening doors were equipped in places with significant high-speed traffic of people, for example, metro exits, train stations, air terminals, and large shopping complexes. Today, pendulum opening doors are produced not only for industrial premises, but also decorated for apartments and residential buildings. The disadvantage of this design, as in the previous case, is low heat and sound insulation, due to the existing two-sided opening gap of approximately 10 mm.
  • The folding door design (accordion opening) looks quite impressive, however, their use is not convenient everywhere. Most often, folding interior doors (partitions) are made of MDF, plastic or aluminum with appropriate decor or glazing and are often installed in the border areas of the kitchen-living room, living room-hall, etc.
  • revolving doors, as a rule, are the main entrance doors in buildings of shopping and entertainment centers, large office complexes, medical institutions, hotels and other similar establishments. Despite the fact that the design of revolving doors is one of the most technically complex, and the process of their installation requires special skills, revolving door designs have been able to find their consumers in the field of home interior design.
