What are the standard sizes of bathroom doors?

Or change internal doors, then you need to know the size of the doors not only to each of the rooms, but also to the bathroom and toilet (if the bathroom is separate).

Many people mistakenly think that the sizes of all doors in an apartment are the same. There is also a misconception that the store sells doors that will definitely fit into your doorways.

Of course this is not true. All openings in the apartment are of different sizes and you must take measurements so as not to get into trouble.

Let's see how to properly measure a doorway before purchasing a door.

What size bathroom door do you need?

To answer this question you will need to take some measurements.

Look at the picture below. Here are the main measurements you will need to take before purchasing your door. Especially if these are glass doors, which you can’t cut or adjust to size.

You will need the following values:

  • doorway height;
  • doorway width;
  • wall width.

All measurements should be taken from one brickwork to another, and not from the door frame. You should also take into account that the brickwork can be plastered and then the size of the opening will also be slightly different.

Knowing these dimensions, you can roughly determine the size of the doors, both to the bathroom and to the toilet.

The table below will help you determine the approximate door size:

Door leaf size, (width/height), mm Doorway width, mm Doorway height, mm
from 590 to 650 from 1950 to 2000
from 640 to 700 from 1950 to 2000
from 640 to 700 from 2050 to 2100

As you can see, doors can be selected within a certain range. You can adjust the dimensions of the opening using the door frame and additional elements.

The size of interior doors is usually larger than doors to the bathroom and toilet.

The width of the doorway on each side should exceed the width of the door leaf by 25-45 mm, and the height should be greater - by 70-90 mm from above when installing a door without a threshold and by 50-80 mm when installing a threshold.

The distance between the door frame and the door leaf is 3-4 mm.

When determining the dimensions of the opening and door leaf, do not forget that the distances from the masonry to the door must be multiplied by 2 (since they will be on both sides). The same applies to all other dimensions, with the exception of the distance from the top edge of the door to the top of the opening.

As an example, let's calculate the door size for some fictitious doorway. For example, having taken the dimensions, we determined that the doorway has the following dimensions: 680x1970 mm

Determining the width of the door

: From 680 we subtract the distance from the opening to the door leaf - 40 mm on each side 680 – 40 – 40 = 600 mm

From 1970 we subtract the distance from the top of the opening to the door leaf (for example, without a threshold) and another 10 mm for the distance from the floor: 1970 – 60 – 10 = 1900 mm.

Thus, a door measuring 600 x 1970 mm is perfect.

You can also do a reverse calculation if you like some doors in the store, but you are not sure that the door will fit into the existing opening.

As you can see, determining the size of the door to the bathroom and toilet is not difficult and you can always purchase doors of the appropriate size.

Replacing a bathroom door is a rather difficult task, which is fraught with many nuances. The first thing you should pay attention to is the size of the door to the bathroom and toilet; you should calculate in advance, measure the dimensions of the bathroom opening, and with all the measurements you have obtained, you can safely go to a hardware store to make a purchase. Of course, this is one of the main conditions that should be taken into account when choosing a door element. But do not forget about other important criteria.

Necessary measurements and calculations

We measure the size of the opening.

If there is a plaster layer, its thickness must be excluded. On average it is 10 mm.

The box fixed to the wall has a width of 25 mm. The seam between it and the partition, 20 mm wide, is sealed with polyurethane foam to ensure a high-quality connection. In addition, there should be a gap of 3 mm between the canvas and the box.

When calculating the dimensions of the canvas, you need to take into account all the specified parameters. For example, if the doorway width is 850 mm, the calculation will be as follows:

850 - (25x2) - (20*2) - (3x2) = 75.4 mm

Thus, taking into account the average values of the block for making the box and the installation gap, the calculated size is 75 mm.

In order to correctly calculate the size of the bathroom door, it is necessary to take into account all additional parameters.

Common mistakes

Typical mistakes when calculating door leaf sizes:

  1. Installing a sealed door in the bathroom. Do not leave a 1 cm gap between the canvas and the floor covering to ensure natural ventilation.
  2. The calculation is made without taking into account the necessary clearances for installation and opening. Do not forget about the need to leave 3 mm between the leaf and the frame so that the door can open freely.
  3. Determining the size of the opening at one point. The door arch may be uneven.
  4. The calculations do not take into account the thickness of the plaster layer.
  5. The installed door swings open, blocking the passage through the corridor or hitting equipment. Before installation, you should consider which way it will open.

When measuring, measurements must be taken at several points; be sure to leave a gap between the canvas and the floor.

Optimal sizes

Door size

If it is chosen incorrectly, it will then be impossible to file it down or adjust it to the required dimensions. All measurements should be taken correctly - from one brickwork to another, but not from the box.

It is imperative to take into account that the masonry can be covered with plaster, then the parameters of the opening will have slight differences.

According to the table, the general standard of the door element for the bathroom and toilet is calculated

Correct sizing

How to calculate door sizes

Width

In order to determine the standard of the canvas for the bathroom/toilet, you should calculate the width parameters. All calculations should be done like this:

  • First of all, the necessary allowances are made. It is worth considering that the parameters of the gap between the box and the wall partition are at least 0.1-0.15 centimeters. Be sure to leave a small space between the box and the canvas (at least 0.3 centimeters);
  • We calculate the width of the door element. From the obtained data on the width of the opening, you need to subtract the data on the gaps and measurements of the width of the door beam indicated in the first paragraph. As a result, the result of the last value should be 2.5 centimeters. All quantities used are multiplied by 2.

Sometimes they use a simple method: they place the door in a standard opening and check whether it fits or not. All calculations are made by adding the values listed above to the width of the web.

How it looks like in an example. The values corresponding to the width of the doors to the bathroom and toilet are 60-70, for ordinary indoor spaces - 80-90. If a wide interior door leaf, the width of which is 80, is installed on the opening in the bathroom or toilet, then the calculation of the width of the opening entrance should be done as follows: 80 + (1 cm + 2.5 + 0.3) x 2 = 88 centimeters. The result of these calculations is a value that is the smallest measurement of the opening width.

Sectional width of the doorway

Height

Height calculations are also performed. Example: The standard door height is 2 meters or 200 centimeters. To this measurement you need to add 3 previously used measurements; you do not need to multiply by 2. 1 cm is added - the size of the gap between the door and the floor covering.

Calculations are performed according to the formula: 200 + 1 + 2.5 + 0.3 + 1 = 205 centimeters. When installing the box in the bathroom/toilet, you must take into account the height of the threshold. Calculations are carried out according to the example: 200 + (1 + 2.5 + 0.3) x 2 = 208 centimeters.

If there is a large standard passage, then it is advisable to take a larger margin: 3.5-4.5 cm on each side, which means that when calculating the width, the measurements are multiplied by two. And when calculating the height, a margin of 5-8 cm is made for a room with a threshold or 7-9 centimeters if there is no threshold.

Determining the height of a doorway

Door sizes according to GOST

First of all, this applies to interior doors for the bathroom and toilet. When choosing high-quality interior doors, it is important to take into account not only the style, material and quality of the door itself, but also the parameters and features of the doorway in the apartment.

For each opening, the door and frame are selected individually

As a rule, most apartment doors are manufactured to specified standards. This means that they have a standard size and thickness. This is very convenient, because when purchasing bathroom doors of standard sizes, you can avoid many troubles. You can be sure that such interior doors will definitely suit you.

Today, bathroom and toilet doors are produced in the following standard sizes:

  • height – 1900, 2000, 2200 mm;
  • width – 400, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000 mm.

Bathroom doors 190 by 40 cm

Bathroom doors 200 x 60 cm

Bathroom doors 200 by 70 cm

Bathroom doors 200 by 80 cm

Bathroom doors 220 by 90 cm

Bathroom doors 220 by 100 cm
Most often in apartment buildings you can find doors of standard sizes 550 by 1900 mm, 600 by 2000 mm. However, this door option may not be suitable if you are the owner of a private country cottage or your apartment has undergone modern renovations. In this case, your home may have non-standard doorways that ordinary interior doors will not fit.

Non-standard interior doors

The first thing you need to do before purchasing interior doors for a bathroom or toilet is to inspect and measure the doorways of the rooms to know for sure whether a standard door will suit you.

Determining the size of the opening relative to the door block

In order not to make a mistake when determining the size of the opening relative to the door block, you need to remember such an important indicator as the gap between the wall surface and the frame. The gap between the frame and the wall should vary between 10-40 mm, but this is only on the condition that there is no curvature of the surface of the floor and walls. The best option is 15-20 mm, which is quite enough for foaming.

Thanks to the box, you should add about 30 mm on each side of the canvas, of which 27 mm is the thickness of the box, and 3 mm is the gap between the box and the canvas.

Components of a doorway
In order for the door to accurately fit a standard opening in the bathroom/toilet and to serve for a long time, it is worth remembering the recommendations:

  • During installation, it is necessary to take into account the space of the ventilation gap - it is left between the floor and the frame. The gap should be approximately 100 mm. Instead, gratings are installed on the lower part. There are products on the markets with an already built-in ventilation grille, and if it is missing, they install it themselves;
  • It is advisable to install doors made of durable material, solid wood, as far as possible from the bathroom, from various sources of increased moisture and fumes. If these elements are installed in a bathroom or toilet, make a protective covering of film, glass or plastic on these elements;
  • the given width of the box must necessarily coincide with the parameters of the thickness of the opening wall. You need to consider the layer of ceramic tile material or plastic material on the walls. If the box is wider, you will have to build up the walls, and this will be an additional waste of labor and money;
  • boxes in the bathroom and toilet are installed strictly in a vertical position according to the level;
  • after installing the door, the resulting gaps should be filled with foam and sealed with putty;
  • You need to install a platband on the door frame. It is attached with glue and nails.

The bathroom is a room with high humidity. In addition, here we carry out hygiene procedures; all family members use this room quite often, so it is worth paying special attention to its arrangement. How to choose a door for a bathroom, what the differences are, we will consider below.

Height, width and thickness of the door frame

When choosing doors for a bathroom or toilet of the wrong size, the door leaf can very quickly bend or become deformed. Therefore, it is important to approach the process of measuring a doorway with all seriousness.

Doorway measurement

In old Soviet-era buildings, the doorway is usually standardized and measures 600 by 2000 mm. The standard size for most new buildings is 700 by 2000 mm. These parameters must be taken into account when purchasing a new interior door for the bathroom.

The standard size of a doorway for an apartment in a new building is 200 by 70 cm

Before you start measuring the parameters of the doorway in the bathroom, it is advisable to remove the door leaf and trim. When taking measurements, it is important to remember that:

  • measuring the height of the door frame should start from the floor, while taking into account the thickness of the future floor covering;

    Measuring the doorway starting from floor level

  • the width of the door frame must be measured from wall to wall;

    When assembling the door frame, measure the width of the door leaf so that the frame is not smaller or larger than the required size

  • the depth of the doorway is measured taking into account the thickness of the wall covering or future wall finishing.

After measurements of the doorway have been made, you should calculate the optimal size of the future interior door for the bathroom or toilet. A similar process will be carried out based on the obtained parameters:

  • thickness of the door frame timber;
  • the distance between the door frame and the leaf;
  • the distance between the door frame and the wall;
  • the distance between the bottom of the door frame and the threshold.

Measuring the door frame during installation
However, in most cases, when installing interior doors for a bathroom and toilet, standard door leaf sizes are suitable. In most specialized stores you can find doors with such standard parameters as:

  • 550-1900 mm for standard openings measuring 59x195, 65x200 cm;

    Doorway size 65 by 200 cm

  • 600-1900 mm for standard openings measuring 64x195, 70x200 cm;

    Doorway size 70 by 200 cm

  • 600-2000 mm for standard openings measuring 64x205, 70x210 cm.

    Doorway size 70 by 210 cm

Which bathroom doors are best?

The bathroom is a unique room; most often, unfortunately, it is not very large, but it is important in every apartment and house. Therefore, when choosing which door is better for the bathroom, you should pay attention to solutions that combine aesthetics and functionality.

The bathroom door should be beautifully designed and match the decor of the apartment. It must also be easy to use, durable and meet certain requirements.

Until recently, this door was almost the same everywhere, sometimes with a window at the top and ventilation holes at the bottom. Those days are thankfully behind us. Currently, the choice is quite large, we can choose different models - glass with different amounts of glazing, solid wood, veneered, MDF and others. Which door to put in the bathroom depends on our tastes and preferences.

The glass option is an interesting and common solution. In addition, this will additionally allow us to illuminate a room without windows. If you are concerned about privacy in the bathroom, you may want to consider options that use clear glass in moderation. In this case, you should choose options with matte or patterned glazing, that is, not completely transparent.

Quite often chosen for the bathroom. This traditional solution has its advantages:

  • ensures maximum confidentiality;
  • allows the use of additional surface, for example, for hanger hooks or other accessories.

Currently, manufacturers often offer collections that include bathroom doors. Thanks to this, we can use the same style throughout the entire house or apartment; the differences will only be in the details, for example, in size or degree of glazing.

What are the risks of purchasing a door with non-standard dimensions?

In addition to standard size doors, there is also a non-standard approach to their manufacture - this nuance can be called rather the negligence of some manufacturers. Quite often you can encounter a situation when, when purchasing new doors, their width goes beyond the scope of unification - for example, the seller states that the door leaf has a width of 600mm, but in fact, after measuring it with a tape measure, it turns out that this size is 603 or 605mm. It would seem not much, but this fact may not have a positive effect on the installation process, especially if the opening into which the door is installed is not wide enough. This error is due to the fact that at the final stage of manufacturing the doors are covered with veneer, which gives extra millimeters.

Bathroom door dimensions

But that’s not all, the standard size of bathroom doors may differ in height. And what’s most interesting is that we are talking here not about millimeters, but about whole centimeters - if you don’t take this into account, you can run into big problems. The person reasons simply: if the door is too high, then it needs to be cut. The logic is simple, but not always acceptable - there is a certain category of doors whose dimensions cannot be changed, i.e. cut. These include doors made of MDF and so-called “voids”. By cutting them from the bottom or top, you open up access for moisture to penetrate inside the doors - as a result, they swell almost immediately.

The height can only be reduced for doors made from solid wood. And this must be done carefully so as not to damage the decorative coating in any way. And the cut end must be covered with a protective material, for example, paint or varnish.

Opening option - right or left, which should I choose?

  • Right - in this case, the hinges are located on the right side and the door opens counterclockwise.
  • Left - the hinges are installed in the frame on the left side and the door opens clockwise.

Before choosing an opening option, let's see which solution will work best for our apartment or house.

Make sure the door is sized to open freely and not block passage.

In the bathroom, pay attention to how the cabinet doors open and which side the switches are on.

If the area is very small and a standard size door cannot fit, you can install folding or sliding doors that do not take up much space.

For safety reasons, they must open outward and have ventilation holes (the shape can be any - it can be a grill, holes or a gap, you can simply trim the bottom).

This is very important - in a bathroom without proper ventilation, the mirror fogs up and fogs up, and this is perhaps the smallest problem. Poor ventilation can lead to the development of fungus and mold.

Locks

For greater comfort and privacy, consider a door lock. We recommend locks that can be easily closed but can also be quickly opened from the outside in an emergency.

Correct installation

Before choosing and ordering, you should correctly measure the opening in the wall. The measurements must be carried out by professionals who will take into account all the nuances, calculate the size of the box and trim, taking into account the location of switches and sockets. An important factor is the thickness of the ceramic tiles, so the installation of doors should be carried out at the final stage of the renovation, when the floor is already ready. If the height of the tiles is less than the height of the doors, the walls around the opening must be leveled using sheets of plasterboard or otherwise. A common mistake is not having the proper width of the jambs to allow for the installation of trims.

The floor in the bathroom is usually made of different materials than in the hallway. From an aesthetic point of view, it is important that the joints of the two types of flooring are hidden under the canvas.

Once we have decided on the issues related to safety, ventilation and comfort, we can approach the design selection. The basic rule is to match the character of the bathroom interior. Manufacturers offer a wide selection of bathroom models, so we can choose any color, material from which they are made, and accessories (handles, locks).

It is worth deciding in advance whether we want an opaque wooden or veneered door or a glazed option. An interesting option for solid wood models, especially for lovers of marine motifs, is a porthole window.

Glazing will illuminate a dark room and add lightness to the massive canvas. If we want to achieve the effect of lightness and transparency, glass doors will be the best. Thanks to them, the room will become bright and have a modern look. They are easy to match to your interior design because they are available in a variety of colors and textures.

The purchase and further installation of doors is a process that is carried out once every few years. Therefore, you need to be very careful and not miss even the smallest detail. Many people have a misconception about the size of a bathroom door. The most common mistake is that they buy the same doors for all doorways or buy a standard product that should fit into the doorway in any apartment, but everything turns out wrong.

How to measure an opening

1. In many Soviet-era apartment buildings, the width of the bathroom is standard - 600 mm

. But you don’t need to hope for this, and before purchasing doors you should carefully measure the size of the opening in the bathroom.

2. Measure the height.

It must be measured from the floor to the ceiling of the opening. The finishing must be complete or add some stock to it.

3. Measure the width

. The width of a bathroom door is measured from one wall to the other.

4. Measure the depth of the opening, otherwise it is the wall thickness

. It is measured by adding a margin for the thickness of the mortar with tiles that will be used to cover the walls in the bathroom. Naturally, this is the case if the finishing is not yet completed at the time the door is installed. Very often, the thickness of the wall in the bathroom is less than the thickness of other walls in the apartment and is usually about 4-5 centimeters, so you need to measure it yourself.

1. After measuring the opening, you can try to calculate the required size of the door leaf.

For the gap between the wall and the door frame, allow a distance of at least 10-15 mm. You also leave a gap of three millimeters between the frame and the door leaf.

2. The width of the door leaf is calculated based on the specific width of the doorway

. To do this, you need to subtract the gaps described above and the width of the door beam from the width dimensions; it will be 25 mm. In this case, you need to multiply all subtracted dimensions by two, take into account the two parts of the door frame.

3. It is more convenient to select a door using reverse calculation

. It is produced by adding the above-described values to the width of the canvas. The most common door widths are 600, 700 and 800 mm. For example, you want to hang a wide door 800 mm wide at the entrance to the bathroom. In this case, the width of the corresponding doorway should be: 800 mm + (10 mm + 25 mm + 3 mm) x 2 = 880 mm. The resulting number will be the minimum indicator that the width of the doorway should be equal to.

1. The height of the canvas is calculated in the same way

. For example, you want to buy doors with a height of 2000mm. You add three parameters familiar to you to this value; you no longer need to multiply by two. You also add a gap of 10 mm between the bottom of the door and the floor. It turns out: 2000 mm + 10 mm + 25 mm + 3 mm + 10 mm = 2050 mm.

2. The threshold height is always included in the calculations

. In the bathroom, just such a door frame is installed. Then calculate the height as follows: 2000 mm + (10 mm + 25 mm + 3 mm) x 2 = 2080 mm.

3. All these calculations are needed to purchase ready-made doors

. Many manufacturers make products to order and can make a bathroom door the size of which you specify. Such a service will cost at least 15% more, but you will receive a product that is ideal for your bathroom.

Homeowners who do not have experience in renovating an apartment often have a vague idea of what size the door to the bathroom or toilet should be. They may buy an unsuitable design. A common mistake: purchasing absolutely identical doors for all openings or purchasing doors of a standard size, which, in their opinion, will definitely be suitable for a bathroom or toilet in absolutely any home.

This article aims to prevent newcomers to construction from making similar mistakes. It also talks about the door options available on the market and how to choose the right size.

Suitable door material

Taking into account the peculiarities of operating the door block at the entrance to the bathroom, you need to carefully consider the material of the door leaf and frame.

Solid wood doors are widely used for bathrooms. They are resistant to humid microclimates and perform well during long-term use.

Plastic doors are also often placed in the opening at the entrance to the toilet. The plastic and aluminum from which they are made are not subject to corrosion and temperature changes. In addition, plastic can be covered with film; the color and texture are very varied.

Glass is a good material for a toilet door. But for a bathroom or combined bathrooms, you need to take into account some of the features of this material. With high humidity and changing temperatures, condensation is inevitable on the glass. Such a door will require constant maintenance, otherwise its appearance will be ruined.

If you want to install doors covered with natural veneer, then check when purchasing whether they are coated with an additional layer of varnish. It will help protect the canvas from the influence of an unfavorable microclimate, which will prevent the canvas from swelling and the veneer peeling off.

If you plan to purchase the box separately from the canvas, then be sure to pay attention to what material was used to make it. MDF is not suitable for an opening into a bathroom, since it absorbs moisture well and swells. This will quickly disable the doors. If it is not possible to choose a box from another material, then before installing it from the inside it must be treated with one or two layers of paint. This will help prevent moisture penetration and swelling of the material.

How to take measurements of a doorway?

Soviet apartment buildings are characterized by compliance with the standard: doors to the bathroom and toilet are 60 centimeters wide. But you shouldn't take this literally. When going to the store, you first need to make the correct measurement of the doorway of a specific living space. The linear parameters of the doors can vary in accordance with the design project of your bathroom.

The opening is measured starting from the edge of the wall. There is no need to do this “by eye”.

The existing (installed) door and trim must be removed, and only after that the necessary measurements must be taken.

Features of taking measurements:

The height of the opening is measured from the floor to the ceiling of the opening. The parameter is determined when the finishing is completed, or it should be taken into account and the required value added.

The width of the opening is measured from one part of the wall to another part of the wall.

The depth of the opening (or in other words, the thickness of the wall) is measured with the addition of an adjustment for the thickness of the tiles and mortar layer that are used when tiling the bathroom walls (if the finishing has not yet been completed at the time of measurements).

Often the thickness of the walls of the bathroom is slightly less than the same parameter of other walls in the apartment. It can be 4-5 centimeters, so the thickness of the walls must be measured with your own hands.

Below is a table with data that will help you choose the right door for the bathroom and toilet.

The data presented in the table below will make the selection of doors for the bathroom and toilet easier.

The dimensions of the door leaf and the dimensions of the opening that correspond to them.

Canvas, width/height, mmOpening, width, mmOpening, height, mm

600x2000from 640 to 700from 2050 to 2100

What sizes are there?

The dimensions of the doorway to the bathroom have their own characteristics, but only by knowing them can you determine which doors are needed in the bathroom. The threshold must be made to a height slightly greater than the floor level, but the height of a door of 190x55 for a bathroom is not quite a standard; 200 is often found, just like doors to other rooms in the apartment.

When thinking about what kind of doors are needed for the bathroom, it is worth measuring the opening: buying the same door panels for the whole apartment can turn into a complete failure, your bathroom may not be quite standard and a 55 cm bathroom door will be the best option. Therefore, measurements taken in advance will save you from wasting money. And one should not take the width of 60 cm as an axiom - this is the most common value, but not constant.

Important! When choosing which doors to install in the bathroom, do not forget: the size of the opening is measured from the edge of the wall! Professionals do not advise doing this “by eye”.

The price of the structure depends on the material, size and design. Before you schedule installation, you need to find out how much bathroom doors cost and work out all the details so that the renovation doesn't cost more than you wanted.

How to calculate the dimensions of the door leaf?

After all the necessary measurements of the doorway have been made, you can calculate the parameters of the future door leaf.

The calculation is made according to the scheme below:

  1. Required allowances
    . The gap between the door frame and the wall should be at least 10-15 millimeters. In addition, it is necessary to leave a gap between the frame and the door leaf (3 millimeters).
  2. Calculation of the width of the door leaf
    . From the measured width of the opening, it is necessary to subtract the gaps specified in paragraph 1 and the width of the door beam. The latter value is usually 25 millimeters. All subtracted values should be multiplied by two (since the door frame has two parts).

But in practice it is more convenient to select a door using a reverse count, that is, to check whether the door will fit into a certain opening.

The calculation is made by adding the indicated values to the width of the web.

For example:

The most popular values corresponding to the width of the door are: 60 and 70 centimeters (bathroom doors) and 80-90 centimeters (interior doors).

Let's say you want to install a wide interior door at the entrance to the bathroom, the width of which is 80 centimeters. In this case, the width of the corresponding opening will be: 80 cm + (1 cm + 2.5 cm + 0.3 cm) x 2 = 88 cm.

The value obtained as a result of such calculations is the minimum value that the opening width should be equal to.

How to determine the required door size

It is important to choose the right size so that you do not have to adjust the door or opening later. Otherwise, the installation cost will increase by 50%.

Often, when describing a door block in catalogs and specifications, the size of the door leaf is indicated, for example, 60x200 cm.

But in addition to the canvas, the block contains a box, and it is also necessary to provide gaps. Therefore, when determining the dimensions of a door, the opening is first measured, and then the filling parameters are calculated.

Opening dimensions

All sizes are important:

Walls and openings are often uneven, so the size is determined at several points and then the smallest value is taken into account.

Sliding door

Before taking measurements, the opening is prepared: the walls are cleared of any remaining foam, plaster, etc. If the floor has not yet been laid, it should be taken into account that the height of the opening will be reduced by the thickness of the floor threshold.

From the obtained values of the width and height of the opening, subtract:

  1. Width of the installation gap. It allows you to align the door block during installation. This parameter should be sufficient for convenient filling with construction foam (polyurethane sealant). The optimal value is 15-20 mm. Two gap widths are subtracted from the width of the opening, and one from the height.
  2. The width of the box elements. This refers to the size of the narrowest part where there is no vestibule. For most models it is 20-30 mm. The size is subtracted twice from the width of the opening, and once from the height.
  3. The gap between the frame and the door leaf. It is 3 mm. Again, this size is minus from the width of the opening twice, from the height - once.
  4. The height of the threshold, if provided. This element will not allow water to spill into the corridor in the event of an accident. Its height is 15-20 mm. There is no need for a threshold if the floor level in the bathroom is lower than in other rooms.
  5. The height of the ventilation gap under the door. In most residential premises there is natural ventilation: fresh air enters through cracks in the windows or supply valves, exhaust air is removed by convection through vertical exhaust risers in the kitchen and bathroom. The system only works if there are no obstacles in the path of air masses from supply to exhaust. Such an obstacle is a blind door, so not only in the bathroom, but also in other openings under it, gaps of 1-1.5 cm high are left. This value should be subtracted from the height of the opening.

Let's assume that the width of the opening at the narrowest point is 695 mm, the height at the lowest point is 2050 mm (the floor has already been laid, a threshold is required).

Then the width of the door leaf will be:

W = 695 – 2x20 – 2x25 – 2x3 = 599 mm. W = 600 mm is accepted. Then the width of the installation gap on one side will be 19 mm, which is enough for foaming.

Bathroom doors 190 by 40 cm

The height of the door leaf will be:

B = 2050 – 20 – 25 – 3 – 20 (sill height) – 15 (ventilation gap) = 1967 mm. B = 1970 mm is accepted. Consequently, the width of the installation gap above the top crossbar of the box will be 17 mm; this is enough for foaming.
