Burlap wallpaper

Today, a large number of different materials are used to decorate indoor walls: from ordinary wallpaper to decorative plaster. Today we’ll talk about how burlap is used in the interior of a room in the form of wallpaper.

To decorate the walls, in addition to the fabric itself, you will need:

  • wooden planks;
  • water-based paint and wood varnish;
  • stapler;
  • brushes of different sizes;
  • “liquid” and regular thin nails.

Preparation

  • Technical wallpaper should be purchased with a margin of 5 cm per linear meter.
  • One cut strip should be lowered to the floor by 10 cm.
  • The burlap must be washed before use. This material is not pure. Just after washing the stripes will “shrink”. This is where the spare 10cm comes in handy.
  • While the fabric is damp, you need to iron it, but do not stretch the fabric with an iron.

Process

First you need to staple the wallpaper to the ceiling and pull it down. The fabric should be left in this state for two to three days to allow it to stretch a little. After the specified period, you need to secure the fabric from the bottom and sides.

The next step is to paint the wallpaper. Coping with this task is not as easy as it seems at first glance. It makes no sense to completely cover the canvas with paint, since then the texture of the burlap will disappear.

Advice! You can paint the wallpaper yourself using the following method. Do not pick up a lot of paint on a large brush. Then lightly apply paint to the canvas.

You don't have to worry about applying paint evenly to the wallpaper. The mesh burlap should be transparent. The result will be visible the next day when the paint dries. Then you can paint patterns with a smaller brush.

Wallpaper should not be overlapped. Wooden planks are usually mounted at the joints between the canvases, which are then coated with light varnish. Stainless steel nails without caps can be used as a connecting element. In the case of a concrete wall, you can use “liquid nails”. You can glue a baguette or regular rope into the joints under the ceiling. Wallpaper can also be decorated with a woven braid made from the same burlap fabric. In a similar way, you can frame door and window joints.

Burlap curtains

You can turn your curtains into a unique piece by decorating them with your own burlap. But you need to know exactly how to place a piece of technical fabric. You can make your own ribbon from burlap and sew it onto the curtains using a button. This idea would look appropriate in the kitchen or living room.

To turn white curtains into a unique piece of furniture, just sew a thin strip of burlap along the edges. Buttons can also be used as additional decoration.

Burlap curtains can be used in any room. In this design, the material has a number of advantages. Firstly, visual aesthetics. Light brown curtains can be painted in any color. Secondly, burlap is a durable material. It will serve for many years. Thirdly, in conditions of a limited budget, burlap curtains will cost less than store-bought ones.

Before purchasing fabric, you need to measure the height and width of your window. The curtain should be 2 times wider than the window opening. The length may vary depending on your own preferences. After purchasing the fabric, you need to wash it well, as this will slightly change the shade and size of the fabric.

There is no need to iron the fabric. Then you need to start sewing the product directly. The fabric must be cut, making a small margin of 2-3 cm on each side for the hem, then using a sewing machine or manually you need to process the edges. If desired, you can leave them untreated, and they will not spoil the appearance of the product. Then, depending on the characteristics of the cornice, a mount should be made. These can be loops or eyelets.

To make the curtain look stylish, and not just a piece of fabric, you need to use various decorative elements. You can sew lace along the edge or make tiebacks from satin ribbon or beads. Accessories will help somewhat soften the roughness of burlap and give it a certain style.

This curtain simply goes perfectly with plain tulle without additional decorative elements and with a mesh curtain. In addition, burlap can be the main element of the interior.

Roman blinds look very interesting; they will be attached to the window using wooden poles. Absolutely anyone can make Roman blinds, you just need to put in a little effort and prepare the required materials, namely, such as:

  • sackcloth;
  • sewing machine;
  • small wooden perches;
  • curtain rings;
  • curtain hook.

Be sure to measure the window height and width and cut the curtains from the fabric, leaving 3 cm on each side for allowances and 8 cm for hems. This is necessary in order to create space for the wooden pole. To avoid shedding of lint during use, you need to make several folds and double stitch the edges of the product. Place the finished curtains on wooden poles and attach several slats at the bottom for counterweight so that the edge of the product does not ride up. To open a window, you need to unscrew the bottom of any curtain and secure it with a bronze ring on the hook.
