The slightly strange and slightly whimsical design of a bedroom in the Baroque style is considered to be a relic of the era of the 16th-17th centuries. The very beautiful, bright and at the same time excessively grotesque Baroque style was eventually supplanted by more practical and understandable design options. The only exceptions are bedrooms, which have their own unwritten laws and rules for interior design, which often have little to do with practicality.
Bedroom interior in Baroque style
The main content of the Baroque style remains excessive expression in patterns and decoration. The design of any piece of furniture, walls, ceiling and even floor in the canonical view should be decorated with patterns, carvings and many small decorative elements.
Where in the modern stylized decoration of a bedroom only a modest designation of a decorative element is used, according to the classical ideas of the Baroque style, the bedroom interior should contain full-fledged heavy patterns with many details, lines and elaborate decor.
The Baroque style has its own characteristics of shaping the bedroom interior, which are largely charismatic, individual and unlike anything else:
- A huge number of curvilinear patterns, lines, arcs, ellipses and polygons, stylized elements borrowed from nature and invented by human genius;
- The interior practically does not adhere to classical proportions; most of the details of the bedroom decor can change in shape and size according to the artist-designer’s own ideas.
Some experts argue that the Baroque style has been preserved in the interior of a modern bedroom due to the excessively large amount of decor, which creates the impression of a rich decoration of the room. Sometimes the character of Baroque is called bourgeois or decorative. In fact, the style is incredibly difficult to replicate in a modern bedroom setting. It's too easy to lose your sense of proportion and turn a room into a museum hall.
Of course, in a modern interpretation, the baroque bedroom design, photo, looks more modest.
Which wardrobe would suit this style?
If the chosen furniture is gilded, then this is simply wonderful, because Baroque is not alien to everything shiny and expensive.

There are certain prohibited things that should not be brought into the bedroom interior. The most important of which is the wardrobe. It is impossible to insert something that was invented and put on sale less than twenty years ago into the royal interior. It will look like an alien from the future. Better give your preference to a three-leaf linen closet made of expensive wood. If the parameters of the room allow it, then buy a chest of drawers.
It can be interesting to introduce rare and unexpected things into the interior. For example, a gilded cage with a canary or an embroidered tapestry panel. Make sure that there is enough space in the baroque bedroom, because clutter and restricted movement indicate that the designer made a mistake and chose the wrong furniture.
Bedroom decoration in Baroque style
Planning, developing details of decoration and furniture in the Baroque style requires incredible patience and work. A bedroom set alone can contain several hundred decorative elements and overlay patterns, not to mention furniture, walls and ceilings.
Traditionally, two types of elements are used to create decorative finishing in the bedroom:
- Overlaid patterns and imitation carvings in the form of intertwined leaves, flowers, compositions and individual parts of entire plants;
- Ruffles made of satin and silk fabrics with numerous inserts and selections.

The Baroque style is used mainly in bedrooms in situations where you need to capture the imagination of visitors or guests. Today, the classic Baroque style is used in the bedrooms and suites of expensive multi-star hotels or in new homes for sale. Even in a moderate version, the interior of a bedroom in the Baroque style photo amazes with the shine of polished wood, the abundance of imitation gilding and the wealth of fabric materials used.
Of course, the size of the bedroom and the layout of the apartment must correspond to the idea of a rich interior; the style looks great in a large bedroom, from 20 square meters or more.
It is clear that the bedroom space must correspond to the chosen design. Any attempt to reproduce an artistic image in a complexly shaped room is doomed to failure. In such a situation, designers recommend limiting yourself to using special stylized furniture from the Black Earth Region for a Baroque bedroom.
Ceiling
Decorative finishing of the Baroque style ceiling can be done in several ways. Most often, in the bedroom of a standard apartment, the ceiling is left open and free of overhead decor.
The best solution for the interior would be a suspended polymer membrane ceiling in white or beige. This solution easily fits into any interior design and somewhat simplifies the work, especially if most of the rooms in the apartment are decorated in this way.
The ceiling space can be designed as a two-tier structure; a small border around the perimeter of the walls only enhances the perception of the image of the finish.
If you want to achieve maximum authenticity, you can use Baroque and Rococo bedroom design techniques. In this case, graphic drawings and whole stories on the theme of people and nature are added to the traditional stucco molding.
Walls
Decorating the interior of a bedroom is usually done using vinyl wallpaper with a vertical pattern and elements of imitation gilding.
Since most of the interior is formed using images of heraldry, vines, animals and plants, wallpaper has to be selected with a pattern that matches the style. The color scheme of a baroque bedroom interior, photo, is largely formed by two elements - the color of the wallpaper and furniture.
In a budget interior project, the walls can be painted with acrylic paint to match the furniture and ceiling space. The perception of the overall picture in a simplified version will not change.
Floor
The ideal solution for floor decoration is the use of slab laminate that imitates natural stone or handmade mosaic covering.
For a bedroom with an expensive interior, mosaic parquet with inserts of light wood is used.
A favorite pattern for flooring is the royal fleur-de-lis with elements of the heraldry of Louis XVI or any similar images. In a budget version of the interior, the floor can be covered with carpet to match the furniture set.
Baroque bedroom furniture
In the interior of a bedroom, furniture is considered to be the main decorative element. The perception of the interior of the bedroom as a whole and its individual parts depends on the method of finishing and appearance of the furniture.
As a rule, Baroque bedroom furniture is made to order on an individual basis. The bed, furniture cabinets and bedside tables - everything should be made in the same style, with the same pattern, in the same tone and color.
The most successful version of furniture is made of wood or aluminum covered with plastic coating, with imitation carvings, marquetry and inlay.
The color and tone of the furniture are matched to the color of the curtains and fabric upholstery. Depending on the chosen color and texture of the fabric, a baroque bedroom photo can turn out to be very light and spacious or, conversely, dark and uncomfortable.
Elegance of material and a huge selection of shades
An equally important detail in the design of a baroque bedroom is the material used in its design. It is important to make the right choice individually. The fact is that furniture items and finishing textiles are selected to match the material used in the interior.

The design solution features silk and velvet elements. You need to be very careful about choosing a color scheme and applying it correctly. Shades of red are ideal for Baroque.
Calm, light colors are also good for this bedroom. Different combinations of shades look beautiful and allow the bedroom to stand out.
Baroque bedroom accessories and decor
A certain part of the Baroque style interior is also formed by individual decorative items and accessories.
This could be a small dressing table with night cosmetics and a table lamp, a shelf for books, a couple of paintings in carved frames.
A mirror in a bronze frame is considered an essential element of any interior. In the classical sense of a stylistic solution, all accessories should be located in close proximity to the bedroom set.
Baroque bedroom lighting
The bedroom lighting system is practically no different from that used in any other place. In the sleeping part of the room, a ceiling lamp or chandelier, decorated in a Baroque style, is traditionally installed.
Night or wall lamps with fabric lampshades and a molded base are installed in close proximity to the bed and near the exit.
Small bedroom in Baroque style
One of the most successful interiors for a small bedroom is shown in the photo. To form the appearance of the Baroque, all that was required was:
- Complete a regular bed with a carved wall;
- Use heavy silk curtains and wallpaper with an embossed surface for decoration;
- Create a two-level ceiling with a small chandelier of a classic shape.
The furniture is complemented and enhanced by two bedside tables with table lamps and a couple of miniatures on the walls.
Furniture items to create a unique look
An expensive bed with golden elements is chosen for the bedroom; in almost all cases it is complemented by a canopy. The bedside table together with the table is replaced by a bedside table with a mirror, made with refined lines with a huge mirror surface with elegant ornaments.

Valuables and jewelry are usually stored in the dressing table. Baroque bedroom furniture complements the interior with its rich look. Window openings are decorated with light curtains in combination with airy tulle.
Walls decorated with textiles will help add mystery to the room; this option will look unusual and will help to visually enlarge the room.
