What is a ceramic panel?
A panel is a very entertaining and interesting option for decorating a room, allowing you to focus on one part of the room (for example, on a wall or floor) and enliven a monochromatic and boring room. In general, a panel is a drawing of a fairly large size, which often occupies the entire wall or ceiling or most of it, focusing attention on itself . It can be framed with a frame or ornament.
Ceramic tile panel
“Panel” is a word with French roots. It has been used for decorating rooms for a very, very long time - the beginning of the history of panels lies in ancient times. In general, as soon as the tile itself appeared, craftsmen and decorators of that time immediately began to use the opportunity to apply drawings to it. The walls were painted, of course, by hand. Nowadays, designs can be applied to ceramics in various ways, but at that time panels were created over a long period of time by the hands of skilled artists.
Decorative panel made of ceramic tiles
On a note! Previously, angels or paintings on a marine theme were depicted on panels to decorate rooms. Nowadays you can see anything on the panel.
Wall panels made of ceramic tiles look great in the bathroom, kitchen, hallway
Previously, panels usually decorated rooms in the houses of the nobility and rich people, but now they can be seen in the apartment of an ordinary person. Here, of course, the size and cost of the panel, as well as the technology of its production, will play a significant role. But in general, you can do it yourself in a number of cases, and also within small amounts.
The panels can now be found in the gym, sauna, swimming pool, private houses, hotels, apartments. Most often it is made in bathrooms, because tiles are an ideal option for cladding walls, floors and ceilings in rooms where there is a high level of humidity. In general, a panel made of ceramic tiles will have all the performance and physical properties of ordinary ceramics, without drawing or pattern. That is, the panel will be strong, durable, will not fade over time under the influence of light rays, and it will not be afraid of water. Also, ceramics are quite easy to keep clean, which means that the painting will not cause the appearance of fungus, mold, bacterial growth, etc. Plus, ceramic tiles are a completely natural material that does not provoke allergies or the development of any diseases.
On a note! Note that a panel is usually a painting or some kind of pattern. But in general, you can use mosaic techniques when creating it, for example, laying out an ornament from pieces of tiles, etc.
Interior panels made of ceramic tiles are one of the most optimal ways to decorate the interior of a bathroom.
The disadvantages of using ceramic panels are as follows: it is necessary to carefully handle the tiles that make up a single picture before installing them. The tile is easy to break by dropping or hitting it, and if cut incorrectly, it can split. Finding a replacement part of the pattern will not be so easy; the store will most likely tell you to buy the whole pattern again. And if you make a panel from fragments, then you can fiddle around for too long, assembling a single beautiful pattern. In this case, assembling an interesting panel sometimes turns out to be more difficult than recreating a puzzle. For beginners, it is recommended to buy a ready-made panel and assemble it on a section of the wall where it will not require the need to trim the tiles.
Types of tile panels for the kitchen
Ceramic tile panels are made in various designs and formats - from miniature length and width parameters to large-format ones designed for covering several square meters of wall.
Mosaic panel
Mosaic is a scattering of small ceramic or glass tiles ranging in size from 1 to 5 cm, called chips. For tiling a kitchen apron, mosaics with tiles ranging in size from 2×2 cm to 5×5 cm are most often used.
Mosaic panels received recognition for the absence of design restrictions - the material is in harmony with such styles as Provence, loft, and modern.
Another advantage of using ceramic mosaic is the visual increase in space. Also, a varied color palette allows you to create three-dimensional designs of various variations, for example, geometric patterns, floral arrangements.
The materials for the mosaic apron are glass, smalt, ceramics, and marble. But the disadvantage of this “application” is a large number of seams. When applying mosaic backsplashes, glass grout is required for the seams.
Glass panel with photo printing
Skinali is the name given to large sheets of glass with an image printed on them using digital printing.
A common location for kitchen panels is on the wall for the apron above the stove, since glass is an easy-to-maintain material.
To make the skinali, especially strong glass with a thickness of at least 5 mm is used. For greater confidence, tempered glass is used - it is 5 times stronger, but its cost is also noticeably higher.
The skins are easy to install; the glass is attached to the wall using various fastening systems. Professionals never use glue when installing glass, as it spoils the image.
Hand-painted panels
The main distinctive feature of the tiles, the pattern which is made by hand by a master, is the originality and uniqueness of the design.
The painting on such tiles cannot be washed off, it practically does not fade, but if this happens, it will be to a small extent and very slowly. Hand-painted panels are laid out using large kitchen tiles. The tiles on the kitchen panels are painted, then fired and covered with glaze. The result is a product similar to the one sold in stores.
Photoceramic panels
Photo printing technology is distinguished by the reliability and durability of the image. A “picture”, previously printed on decal paper using ceramic inks, is transferred to the plates. After drying and prolonged firing in a special oven for 10 hours, where the temperature reaches 900 degrees, a product called photoceramic tiles is obtained.
The main secret of the technology is ceramic dye. This is a special paint that includes organic and inorganic compounds. During firing, organic components burn, and inorganic dyes are fused into the upper layers of the tile surface. After this, the applied pattern and the enamel surface form a single whole.
The process of producing photoceramics is manual, painstaking work that takes a lot of time. At the same time, as a result of this process, kitchen tiles with a high-quality image are obtained.
Another option for applying an image to ceramics is sublimation. Its manufacturing technology is as follows: a polymer composition is applied to the tile, then a printed pattern. The printing method is relatively cheap, allowing you to print an image of any format. Its main drawback is the short warranty period, about two years.
Types of panels
Depending on the type, size, and installation location, there are several categories and options for panels. First of all, it’s worth mentioning ready-made and homemade panels . Both varieties will help give the interior uniqueness and individuality, but some of them are easier to create yourself, others are more difficult. Finished panels can have different sizes. This can be a small rosette of 4-6 tiles, as well as a fairly large picture on the entire wall or part of it. Often, panels are used to decorate the walls above the bathroom, as well as aprons in the kitchen. A panel with a finished pattern can be selected at a hardware store or ordered from a specialized catalog.
The typical size of the panel allows it to be used as decoration for any tile 20x20 cm and 20x60 cm
As for homemade panels, you can go different ways - make an ornament using tiles of different colors, sizes, or even pieces of ceramics and lay them out on the walls or floor in the desired pattern, or choose a specific design and order a special option for printing the image on ceramics (photopanel ). Here you can use all your imagination - print a photo of your favorite artist, family members, order an original image, or choose a photo of the sea coast or wild forest. In this regard, the panels can be compared with ordinary photo wallpapers, only their base is not paper, but ceramic.
Porcelain stoneware panel
Important! The cost of some ready-made panels is high, and printing on ceramics will be quite expensive. Not everyone can afford such expenses. The finishing option can be made cheaper by reducing the area to be decorated. For example, decorate with a pattern only a small section of the wall, and not the entire space from floor to ceiling.
Wall and floor panels
Also, the types of panels can be divided depending on what part of the room it will be located on. So, you can decorate the walls, floor or ceiling with a pattern.
The panel can be wall or floor
Table. Types of panels depending on location.
Type | Description |
Wall mounted | Such panels are used most often - they are relatively inexpensive, they allow you to visually change the dimensions of the room and decorate it. Sometimes a well-chosen design can significantly improve a room. Most often, such panels are installed in bathrooms, and also as aprons in kitchens. Photo printing or drawing is made on ordinary wall tiles. 3D design of ceramics is also quite popular. The installation process is quite simple - the tiles are fixed on the walls, like ordinary ceramics, it is only important not to confuse the sequence of elements. |
Floor | The floor panel is made from more durable tiles, which are used to decorate floors. Such ceramics will also differ in a number of other characteristics from ordinary wall ceramics. Here, the pattern on the tiles often resembles the pattern on the carpet, but there may be other variations depending on the style of the interior. Typically, the surface of ceramics is matte rather than glossy. This also includes rosons. This is a type of panel that is usually made in the middle of the room, often on the floor. Rozon has a clear outer contour or is highlighted with some kind of contrasting stone. |
This is what rozon looks like
Other varieties
The same can be said about other popular panel options that can be seen in houses and apartments, as well as premises for other purposes. So, mosaic panels have already been mentioned above. It is worth noting that this is one of the most popular wall decor options. Mosaics are usually installed from small tiles or fragments of larger ones (the recommended size of the elements is no more than 3 cm).
Mosaic panel
In addition to ceramics, pieces of mirrors and glass can also be used to decorate mosaics. They tolerate high levels of humidity in bathrooms quite well, withstand other influences well and, like ceramics, do not lose their appearance for a long time.
On a note! A mosaic panel can have either a chaotic arrangement of elements of different colors or a clear sequence of mosaic pieces.
Alternatively, the panel can be made of glass or pieces of mirrors. By the way, this option would look quite good in the hallway or another room. In a bathroom or kitchen, the panel usually blends harmoniously with the ordinary ceramic tiles surrounding it. It will also visually help to increase the space, which is important for small and cramped spaces.
Mirror panel
On a note! Tiles with a mirror surface can be additionally decorated with sandblasting, which is now popular.
The designer version of the panel is considered the most expensive, but it is also the most beautiful, and you can also be sure that no one else will have such a design on ceramics, since the designer will make it to order. Quite often in this case, the tiles, as in ancient times, are painted by hand. Designer tiles can also be made to order, which is also far from a cheap job.
A mirror panel or mirror tiles is a good solution if you want to visually enlarge the space of the room and give it more light
On a note! You can paint the ceramics yourself using a stencil. But without the skills of an artist and experience in using certain tools and materials, you shouldn’t take risks and apply a design yourself - you can ruin the tile. Alternatively, you can try practicing on an old tile first.

Ceramic tiles - beautiful and durable
Ceramic wall panels are art. They can be compared to photo wallpapers, but the former have advantages. Ceramic tiles with a pattern cannot be damaged, scratched, or torn. The coating is not afraid of moisture and is easy to clean. Ceramic tiles with geometric patterns will transform the interior of the bathroom and kitchen. Ceramic tiles with a relief pattern will decorate the floor and facade. Ceramic tiles with a pattern will help you quickly decorate a room. Photos and examples are presented on the website. You can buy a ceramic panel with a mosaic pattern at an affordable price. Printed ceramic tiles are an easy way to add a sophisticated touch to your home.
Selecting a panel
Choosing a panel is not an easy task. Here you will have to take into account not only your own desires and budget, but also the interior style, color scheme, general rules for decorating the space, as well as the dimensions of the room and a number of other factors. For small rooms, it is best to choose the lightest possible color scheme; moreover, the panel can be either light or dark, but it should focus attention and in no case conceal the space. Contrast can generally distract attention from the size of the room, but light shades reflect light and make the room appear larger, albeit visually.
Ceramic tile panels for the kitchen
In any case, the panel should stand out on the wall and draw attention to itself. So further, light on light, it should have a frame or ornament surrounding itself.
Advice! 3D drawings help to “deceive” the eye and make the room “larger.” This is always a win-win, as these images generally look great. The main thing is that they match the style and theme of the room.
3D panel in the bathroom
The size of the elements in the panel may differ from the size of the rest of the tiles in the room. But in general, the parameters should still be harmonious. Moreover, the panel can be either horizontal or vertical, oval, rectangular, square, etc. Here it is important to simply choose the option that will fit perfectly into the room and interior, depending on its parameters.
As for the style, the panel can fit into almost any style. It’s just the type of drawing that will be the deciding factor. It needs to fit perfectly into the chosen style (for example, natural images are suitable for eco-style).
You can decorate the walls by making a mosaic panel for the kitchen from tiles
Important! It should be taken into account when thinking about the layout and furnishings of the room that the panels cannot be covered with pipes, interior items and other things. You can't hang any shelves on this wall either. Also, you should not make two panels at once in one room - on the floor and on the wall. The exception is a direct continuation of the wall panel on the floor (for example, the coast and the seabed).

Choosing a panel plot for the kitchen
The ceramic composition should be in harmony with the surrounding interior and combined with the base tiles.
When choosing a ceramic panel, be guided by a number of simple rules:
- the square shape of the tile is considered optimal, with its help it is easy to design the dimensions of the apron and position it relative to the kitchen surfaces more harmoniously;
- the amount of tiles used depends on which installation method is chosen: vertical, horizontal or diagonal (with the latter, more tiles are consumed);
- tiles with a smooth texture “give off” dirt better than a textured model;
- the color of the product must be in the same color scheme or combined with the surrounding furniture and walls;
- the original option is a panel made from fragments of tiles, since it can appear as a central element of kitchen decor, for example, in the form of three-dimensional drawings.
Images of kitchen backsplash panels come in a wide range. The most common floral arrangements seem to be: bright poppies, delicate orchids, playful sunflowers.
However, there are other themes that are often used in the interior:
- scenery;
- still life;
- kitchenware;
- ornaments;
- tea and coffee theme;
- wine;
- Dessert.
In addition to traditional decor, it is easy to choose panels with images of picturesque Mediterranean towns, abstract drawings, marine themes, graphics, reproductions of famous works or copies of ancient manuscripts and tapestries.
Reference . If you are not afraid of experiments, an interesting and bold decoration technique would be a combination of several subjects in one interior. For example, birds of paradise and exotic flowers, bottles of wine and fruit, coffee and desserts. The main condition for a successful combination is adherence to a single color scheme.
In addition to standard versions of ceramic paintings, there are free-size models that do not have a specific size. The patterns depicted on the tiles do not have clear boundaries, so it is easy to assemble a set of tiles yourself, depending on the required dimensions.
Among the advantages of finishing with frieze slabs is their ability to increase the height of the ceiling or reduce the length of the wall due to a certain pattern that seems to continue outside the wall. The slabs also create a smooth transition from the bright palette of the panels to the neutral background cladding of the room.
Panel installation
In fact, installing decorative ceramic panels will not be much different from installing standard ceramic tiles. So, if you have experience in carrying out this type of work, it is quite possible to lay a ceramic panel yourself. This will save quite an impressive amount of money.
Porcelain stoneware painting
In any case, before starting work, you need to study the instructions for installing the panels, which are usually included with the set of tiles, if this is a finished pattern. If the panel is made from simple multi-colored tiles or pieces thereof, then you can simply read how to lay tiles correctly and take the advice of experienced craftsmen.
Important! There are a couple of ways to lay tiles - seamless and with the formation of seams, which are then filled with a special grout. The choice of method will depend on the type of panel.
The surface where the panels will be installed must already be prepared, that is, cleaned of old coating, leveled, primed, etc. If necessary, plastering work can also be carried out. All compositions must be thoroughly dried before installing the panels.
You need to be properly prepared for work
For ease of work, it is better to lay out the panels somewhere on a flat surface to see if all the parts are in the set. This will also help evaluate the condition of the tiles and understand how the finished drawing will look. It is better to start installing panel elements from the bottom if we are talking about a wall. It is important to check the evenness of the installation - to simplify the task, you can draw a diagram of the installation of the design elements on the surface where it will be mounted. This will avoid image shifts and distortions.
Advice! If the panel is large and needs to be shortened a little, then it is better to trim the bottom tiles or the top ones. Here, too, you will have to focus on the type of pattern, as well as the geometric parameters of the room.

Installation of a ceramic panel using an example
In this case, the panel will be mounted on the floor and will play the role of a kind of “carpet”.
Step 1. The first step is to install a floor screed or level the existing floor. You should check its evenness before further work. Tiles cannot be laid on a curved base.
Checking the evenness of the floor
Step 2. The floor must be thoroughly cleaned of dust and debris and covered with a primer mixture, allowing it to dry thoroughly.
Then the floor needs to be primed

Step 3. It is also better to check the tiles purchased in the store for compliance with the standards - they should be smooth, intact, and neat.
Checking purchased tiles
Step 4. Next, you need to prepare tile adhesive and you can begin laying plain tiles framing the panel. Installation is carried out as in the usual case. The panel should just be in the middle of the room, and the rest of the space should be covered with ordinary tiles that match the style, color, and texture.
Pouring tile adhesive
Step 5. You need to apply tile adhesive under the first row of panel tiles, as when installing regular tiles. It is applied with a wide spatula to some space on the floor along the already laid row of regular tiles. Then I form furrows on it using a special spatula with teeth.

Step 6. Be sure to install separators if you need to use them. In this case, gaps between the tiles are formed.
Using delimiters
Step 7. Now you can start laying the first panel tile. It is important not to confuse the sequence of elements, otherwise you can ruin the drawing. The first tile is placed where the dividers are already installed and pressed down lightly.

Step 8. The second tile must be laid, like the first, separating it from neighboring ones with dividers and lightly pressing it down.
Laying the second panel tile
Step 9. Next, you need to lay the entire row of panel tiles using the same principle, and then proceed to the installation of the second and subsequent rows. There is nothing complicated here, the main thing is to carefully monitor the sequence of installation of the parts of the picture.
The first row is laid

Step 10. After installing the tiles, you can remove the dividers and grout the joints between the elements. The floors can be fully used only after the adhesive has dried. Excess grout must be removed from the tiles before they dry.
At the end you need to rub the seams
The floor panel is ready

Panels made of ceramic tiles are an excellent option for decorating walls in rooms where there is a high level of humidity and there are also certain requirements for the hygiene of materials. In general, installation of such a pattern can be handled without any problems by anyone who already has experience in laying ceramics. And a beginner, with due diligence and accuracy, will also be able to do the work on his own. It is important to understand that such a panel can last for many years, so you should carefully select its style, color and size.
Features of installing tile panels in the kitchen
Before directly laying it on the wall, lay the panel on the floor so that it is convenient to take the necessary measurements. If the size of the composition does not match the space allocated to it, try to trim the edges in such a way as to achieve symmetry.
When laying, pay attention to the back of the tile, since the components of the overall picture are numbered there. There is an option to lay tiles with seams or use a rectified type of tile - without seams. In order not to spoil the single composition with seams, they are made within 1 mm. The grout can be used transparent, matched to the main color or made contrasting.
Attention ! When the rectangles are arranged vertically, the height of the apron visually increases; when placed horizontally, it expands in width.
The tiles are laid on tile adhesive, which has good viscosity and takes a long time to set, so the first row often begins to shift. To prevent this from happening, place a drywall profile or a wooden batten under the tile, temporarily screwing the structure to the wall.
Here are some installation recommendations:
- the panel cannot be cut;
- tiles with relief should not be laid in a corner, as adjacent elements will create gaps;
- it is important that the pattern is located in the center of the main wall, with even trimming on the sides if necessary;
- It’s better not to use a large number of bright paintings so as not to overload the interior.
Also think about the possibility of using friezes and borders in the design of panels. They create a frame around the panel, giving it an even greater resemblance to a painting. The border also helps to harmonize the panel and the base tile in color or texture.
Varieties of composition
To decorate your bathroom, it is worth exploring different types of wall art. The type of design depends on the material that was taken as the basis for the finishing.
Has image resistance to high humidity
Wall decoration
The dimensions of the decorative painting directly depend on the total area of the bathroom. The chosen design is able to smooth out some of the shortcomings in the room and emphasize the external advantages. In a large bathroom you can install an oversized design. A pattern made of ceramic tiles is suitable. For the bathroom they often choose:
- seascapes;
- ships;
- marine flora and fauna.
A painting that should be installed in any corner will help make a small bathroom visually taller and wider. The drawing must have no plot. The best option would be abstraction or the image of thin lines.
The dimensions of the painting depend on the area of the room
Wall panels are made in different interpretations:
- Photopanel is a relatively young type of decoration. You can create it from any photos. Most often they use photos of media personalities, animals, plants, city landscapes, retro photos, etc.
- For a small bathroom, it is better to use mirrored wall decoration. A mirror will not only visually expand the boundaries of the room, but also fill it with light. The surface can be decorated with various translucent patterns.
- The walls of a small bath can also be decorated with a painting consisting of one tile. The drawing is placed against a background of tiles painted in one tone. Colored spots attract attention and look original.
- Panels with 3D images are made from modern materials of increased strength.
- Mosaic finishing is most often used to decorate the bathroom. However, laying such material is a very labor-intensive process. The images of seashells on a snow-white beach look beautiful.
Photopanel is a relatively young type of decoration
Mosaic composition
Mosaic as a decorative material is very popular among designers. The selected image is laid out using small multi-colored tiles up to 3 cm wide. Each part is secured using a special metal mesh. All elements are made from the following materials:
- Various textured ceramics. Mosaic tiles are coated with a moisture-resistant glaze, which also protects the surface of the future decor from abrasive wear.
- Glass mosaic looks like crystal. A spectacular image is not afraid of excess moisture. Glass parts do not react to acids and other chemicals.
- The smalt finish is durable and reliable. The technology for producing smalt elements makes it possible to install spectacular internal lighting when gluing.
- The use of stone of natural and artificial origin allows you to create unique compositions when decorating walls. The material can be polished or aged.
Mosaic as a decorative material
Mosaics can be used to create ornaments from oriental culture that will convey the long-standing spirit of history to the bathroom. Also, modern motifs, abstractions, portraits, silhouettes of animals and people, and elements of the plant world are created from small pieces.
The essence of making a mosaic is that the parts should be placed in random order. The result is unique patterns. A classic bathroom is decorated with geometric shapes. A room with a Provençal interior is decorated with images of pastel flowers or seashells.

Ceramics on the floor
Due to their quality characteristics, ceramic tiles are best suited for decorative finishing of bathroom floors. The floor covering withstands mechanical stress well, is not afraid of dampness and has a long service life. The technical properties of a tiled panel in a bathroom make it possible to place electrical elements under the decorative material to install a heated floor system.
The tiles laid out in the shape of a rozon will look interesting. However, this type of ceramic image is suitable for a spacious room. The surface of the coating should be matte or glossy. Among the patterns, marine themes, shells, and paintings by famous artists are often used.

Ceramic wall panel
To create a composition in the bathroom, you can choose ceramic tiles of various textures and colors. The popularity of ceramic material is also due to its distinctive properties:
- ease of laying tiles;
- low cost;
- suitable characteristics for use;
- resistance to contact with household chemicals;
- resistance to mechanical stress;
- ability to withstand temperature changes.
Ceramic tiles with tulips
Along with all the advantages, tiled flooring also has some disadvantages. The main disadvantage of tiles is fragility.
Methods of applying ornaments
The pattern is applied to the ceramic surface using several methods:
- printing followed by firing is a time-consuming and expensive method. Using this method, an image can be applied even to a ribbed surface;
- sublimation printing is a faster and cheaper technique;
- A decal is a method of applying a design using a decal. The decal is the most functional option;
- The cheapest way is to use UV ink.
Painting a wall in a marine theme
When choosing photo tiles, it is necessary to take into account the place where installation will take place and the presence of high humidity. The decal technique is best used in a bathroom with good lighting and a constant level of humidity.
The cheapest cladding is used in rooms with low humidity and little risk of mechanical damage.
Features of porcelain stoneware
Porcelain stoneware finishes have a long service life and strength properties. The quality of the material is superior to its tiled counterpart. Porcelain tiles have a low level of water absorption compared to other types of finishes.
Porcelain tile finish has a long service life
Porcelain tiles have the following advantages:
- suitable for use in damp rooms;
- It is reliable and highly resistant to scratches;
- images of varying complexity are applied;
- The material is easy to care for.
Advice It must be remembered that this type of finish is very slippery and is not recommended for use on floors. Tiles with a glazed and polished surface are used for wall decoration.
Phototile
To create a decorative look in the bathroom, most designers prefer photo tiles. Using this material you can create images in the richest and brightest colors. It is also possible to choose any pattern. Photo tiles are used to decorate not only small areas of the bathroom, but also the entire wall.
With photo tiles you can create images in the richest and brightest colors
When purchasing photo tiles for a wall panel, it is recommended to choose the following options:
- images of wildlife or beaches of exotic countries. Waterfalls, fish, shells and jellyfish will look harmonious in the bathroom interior. The image of small boats with white sails will be romantic;
- For a bathroom decorated in various styles, floral patterns are suitable. Orchids look spectacular close-up;
- many designers use family photographs for panels.
From this type of tile you can make a whole image or break it into separate parts. To ensure that the selected picture covers the entire wall, high-resolution photographs are used. For a small canvas that can be placed in different areas of the bathroom, the cost will be much less.
A good option would be to select several small photos. Photo tiles are suitable for framing a doorway or mirror. You can also decorate a niche with it and install beautiful lighting there.

A glass panel can have a matte, corrugated or smooth surface. It looks like a glass composition that is used to decorate an empty area on the wall. Such structures can be equipped with various lighting. Pieces of glass measuring 10x10 are painted in different shades and beautiful compositions are laid out from them.
The glass picture in the bathroom has some features:
- they are able to create bright accents in the interior of the room;
- suitable for rooms decorated in modern design directions;
- Glass panels with a mirror surface will look interesting. During the installation of special lighting, holographic patterns are applied.
May have a matte, grooved or smooth surface
Single-tile panel
A painting created from one tile contains a specific plot. The features of this type are as follows:
- For the main image, geometric shapes, large flowers, and animal silhouettes are used;
- the design is applied in bas-relief;
- the composition is often complemented with ceramic structures;
- Used mainly for finishing narrow spaces.
Carefully selected single tiles make it possible to decorate the bathroom wall with original compositions.
Black design
From several tiles
The most popular option for decorating a wall is a prefabricated image. The general plot consists of parts, each of which is applied to a separate tile.
The features of the prefabricated panel are as follows::
- the whole image is assembled from individual parts;
- elements are combined in such a way that the resulting joints are not visible;
- sizes sometimes reach three meters;
- The shape of the coating can be square or rectangular. The composition can be made either round or oval.
Bright room design
The large image should be placed in the center of the entire wall.
With 3D drawing
A panel with a 3D effect appeared not so long ago. Modern technologies are used for its production, so the image on the tile looks very realistic. The photo print applied to the material must be subject to further firing. As a result of this process, the product is completely protected from the destructive effects of moisture. During firing, the paints penetrate deeply into the surface and are fixed there. A special glaze is applied to the top of the tile.
A panel with a 3D image is considered a unique material
3D painting has significant advantages:
- long period of use;
- mildew resistance;
- ease of installation;
- ease of care;
- hypoallergenic characteristics;
- high impact resistance.

A panel with a 3D image is considered a unique material because it radically changes the perception of space and time.
FreeSize
The free-size panel or free-size design was created specifically for rooms of non-standard height. The advantage of this type of composition is that the owner of the room can decide for himself what height his future panel will be. The main thing is that the picture fits harmoniously into the atmosphere of the room.
The plot of the scenery is divided into three separate parts: the middle, the beginning and the end . The main role in such a puzzle is played by the middle, due to which the panel can be lengthened by any amount. The middle part of the plot consists of tiles on which one design is applied. The first and third squares cannot be swapped or another tile added to them, since they are where the beginning and end of the image are placed.
Beach motif
A clear example will help you understand this better. The panel depicts a tree. The story begins where the trunk comes out of the ground. The crown completes the picture. The trunk itself is the middle. So it can be extended to at least a five-meter height by simply laying identical tiles one after another.
There is another type of free size - a tile on which a pattern is applied that has no boundaries . That is, it will not be possible to put together a specific picture from them. The panel is represented by a scattering of elements created in order to create a randomly chosen pattern. Tiles can be connected in any order at your discretion.
As a result, you can post:
- starry sky;
- abstract composition;
- flower meadow;
- combining different patterns from one set.
Rules for choosing a decorative composition
Panels are primarily a finishing material. Therefore, when choosing a suitable pattern, you should base it on the shades of the room and its dimensions. For a small bathroom, it is better to choose a monochromatic composition with small, eye-catching images. The drawing should be in pastel colors so that bright colors do not hide the space. Dark and contrasting tiles are suitable for large rooms.
The selected composition should fit harmoniously with the overall design style:
- for a bathroom decorated in retro style, select a panel with an abstract pattern;
- tiles with marine motifs promote relaxation. These could be ships, beach landscapes, fish, shells, etc. This composition is combined with a Mediterranean-style interior;
- graphic patterns and mosaics are suitable for an ethnic bathroom;
For a small bathroom it is better to choose a monochromatic composition
- classic or baroque style can be complemented with tiles in delicate tones, which depict landscapes, butterflies or flowers;
- An oriental bathroom will become special if you use unusual patterns and bright colors. You shouldn’t limit your imagination; you can use an abundance of colors;
- A country style bathroom should be decorated in subdued colors. A light mosaic with a matte surface is welcome;
- Natural motifs are typical for small spaces. For decoration, use tiles that imitate wood, leather or bamboo. Seashells are also popular.
In brown tones
Tile panels for the bathroom are selected based on the preferences of the home owners, the size of the room and its interior . You can choose an inexpensive option or order more expensive decor from a designer.
