Paint for painting wallpaper

Choosing a color

General Tips

As a rule, a white base is sold on store shelves, and on stands there are many colors displayed - small pieces of paper with color options. Having chosen a manufacturer, you need to decide on the shade. Next, using a special machine, pigment is added to the white base in the required quantity - everything is ready.

A more ancient way to get the desired color is to mix everything at home. To do this you will need a base and a bottle of pigment. In this option, there is a big risk of making a mistake with the shade, pouring a little more pigment than necessary. Plus, this is not very convenient physically - if you are a fragile girl, and you have to mix 5 liters of paint, you simply may not have enough strength to mix the composition well, and you will end up with streaks and sudden changes in color. Even if you managed to do everything perfectly, it’s not a fact that the second can of paint will turn out to be exactly the same shade. Therefore, we still recommend making the paint immediately in the store. You just need to enter a special code that is assigned to a particular shade, and then, as they say, it’s a matter of technique, in the literal sense of the word. A special device will quickly prepare any amount of the mixture.

Which tone is better?

Of course, the shade of the walls is a purely individual choice for everyone. But, nevertheless, there are several basic rules when purchasing. First of all, look at the footage; if you have a cramped Khrushchev, you will have to abandon overly bright and dark colors in favor of a light, pastel or even white coating. If your soul requires colored walls and a black ceiling, well, experiment. But in this case, balance the brightness with neutral textiles or furniture. Give up the decor - let the colorful walls take over its function.

Windows facing north and bringing nothing into the house except dull gray light for several hours a day must definitely be adjacent to the color yellow. Let the bright sun at least be present in the interior. The trend of recent seasons is a monochrome interior. Textures will help make it not boring and multifaceted. Play with surfaces, combine matte and gloss, add another tint. In general, try on the role of an artist!

Gold and silver tones in the interior usually raise a lot of questions and debates. How to include them in the decoration so that it does not become too pretentious? Is it worth using such shades at all? Experts answer unequivocally - yes, it’s worth it. When applied correctly, they will give the effect of antiquity, small abrasions and cracked surfaces - indispensable for classic interiors, Empire and Art Deco styles. To create this effect, you will need a hard brush with which to apply the composition. It is important not to overdo it with the quantity - after all, you are only creating an effect, and not completely painting the surface. The difference in textures will help to enhance it - choose a matte texture as a base, and create a glossy texture for golden highlights.

What are paints and why should they not be neglected when decorating walls?

Is it possible not to paint wallpaper before painting?

The wallpaper is pasted, the room immediately sparkles with new colors: it seems larger, neater, cleaner. And the first thought after gluing is to leave everything as it is, because the room already looks perfect. Is it possible to do this?

It’s difficult to answer unequivocally, since some nuances play a role:

  • glass wallpaper is the most durable among other types. Their top layer is already protected from the ubiquity of external unfavorable factors: sunlight, moisture and other things that can cause damage to the coating;
  • Other types of wallpaper, especially paper, have a thin top layer, which will quickly wear out without additional protection.

Therefore, it is better to cover wallpaper for painting with paint, it can even be the same tone as the coating. This will ensure their preservation for many years.

Things to consider before purchasing

The finishing coating must suit all the nuances of a particular room.

  • Be sure to measure the air humidity before repairing. In addition, it is important to consider the room’s traffic and the degree of illumination. For example, in the living room and hallway, the finishing must meet higher wear resistance requirements. You can choose a less durable one for the bedroom. If you are painting a bathroom, be sure to choose a specialized composition for wet areas.
  • Do not forget that high-quality surface finishing is extremely important. It needs to be leveled more thoroughly, covered with an even layer of putty, applied primer, and then just glued the wallpaper. Yes, they will take on some of the unevenness, but the entire appearance of the room, color consumption and drying period will depend on the quality of the basic finish.
  • If your choice falls on a complex, multifaceted shade, it is better to play it safe and try it on a small area of the wall. It is important to remember that any composition changes color slightly after drying.

How to paint wallpaper for painting yourself?

The basic rule is that all paint and varnish mixtures must be applied to a clean and dry surface. And be sure to wait for the wallpaper to dry completely. And only after that start painting. As a rule, the interval between pasting and painting is about 24 hours.

All wallpaper for painting is initially white. And to paint them, you can choose any tone that interests you. If you need to repaint dark wallpaper, apply neutral paint first, and only then paint it the desired color.

Let's look at the whole process of painting wallpaper with your own hands step by step:

  • Selection and preparation of paint. If the paint is thick, dilute it to the desired consistency and mix thoroughly. The consistency of the coloring mixture should be homogeneous without additional inclusions.

  • Using masking tape, it is necessary to glue all the joints of the walls with the ceiling and floor. Skirting boards and other parts and elements are also protected from paint.
  • Painting wallpaper. Paper canvases are painted in one go, because... When stopping, noticeable joints may appear on the walls. First, using a brush, carefully paint all the junctions and corners, and only then roll all the walls with a roller. In this case, it is necessary to move from top to bottom, i.e. from the ceiling to the floor, leaving no gaps, even if the painting is in several layers. This method will allow you to apply the paint evenly and without streaks.
  • After the first layer has completely dried, you can apply the next layer of paint. As a rule, wallpaper for painting is painted in two layers.

Painting wallpaper with water-based paint also requires certain conditions. The paint must first be given a certain shade.

This can be done in two ways:

  1. With my own hands. To do this, you buy liquid or powder color and gradually add it to the paint. It is important not only to correctly guess the amount of pigment required, but also to mix the paint thoroughly using a whisk or mixer. The brightness of the shade will be influenced by a certain amount of color. As a rule, all manufacturers put a color palette on the packaging. And note that in the container the tone is darker. And for the result you want, you will need more color. You also need to consider the type of roller you will use. It is very important what kind of coloring layer it leaves: thin or dense.

  2. The second option is easier, you simply buy paint with colors in construction stores. All you have to do is choose the shade you like, and the computer system itself will add the required amount of pigments and mix the paint efficiently.

Is it necessary to paint wallpaper before painting?

This question arises among many inexperienced non-professionals, because, as a rule, the finish looks good anyway. According to experts, if the panels are white, they need to be painted. This allows you to achieve a uniform effect, as if the walls were not covered with anything. At the same time, the texture and environmental properties are completely preserved. In addition, the walls will look more beautiful and elegant, acquiring a glossy shine or, conversely, a matte finish.

Paintable wallpaper is the dream of any designer, a discovery for a builder and a godsend for many owners. These coatings make all subsequent repair work an easy task that does not require large financial and time expenditures, because they can be painted many times without having to perform complex surface preparation.
