Submit meter readings for electricity in Nizhny Novgorod

Types of meters and how they work

Today, manufacturers of electrical equipment produce two types of electricity meters:

  • induction - these are devices of outdated models, which are based on the principle of operation based on electromechanical induction;
  • electronic or static , which are based on microprocessor elements and electronic components.

Induction electricity metering and control devices

And although the filling of the devices varies greatly, they perform the same function - they take into account the current passing through them and display its quantity. At the same time, the readings change over time, or rather increase. This allows you to more accurately record data over a certain period of time, which is the basis for electricity metering.

Where is the electricity meter located?

There is one very strict rule that determines the availability of the meter for taking electricity readings.
That is, the controller from the energy supplying organization must freely approach the meter at any time and read the electric current consumption data from it. Therefore, in apartment buildings, devices are installed in electrical distribution panels, which are located on staircases. In some old houses, such a distribution board is not provided at the entrance. Therefore, electricity meters were installed in apartments. This is a big problem today, because not all owners of such apartments open their doors to inspectors.

Counter in a cabinet on a pole

As for private houses, there are two places that can be used to install the metering device: on the facade of the house or on a pole, from the latter wires are stretched to the house. Other installation options are prohibited.

How to correctly take readings from the device

Since two types of electricity meters are still used today, you need to figure out how to correctly take readings from the electricity meter of both types.

How to read an induction type meter

So, an induction type counter, or rather, its display is a spinning wheel under the dial. The number of digits in different models can vary from 5 to 7 characters. In this case, the last digit differs from the rest either in color, or in the size of the window, or is highlighted by a comma. These are tenths of kilowatts, which are not taken into account when calculating readings.

Attention! Some induction meters do not highlight the last digit, so the entire number series is taken into account.

The procedure for taking readings itself is simple. Usually it is kept monthly, so it is very important to keep records correctly by month, either in a journal, or in a special book issued by the energy supply organization, or using payment receipts, where it is necessary to indicate the collected data.

This is the electricity consumption reading

If the owner of a house or apartment changes the meter, then GorSvet draws up a report that shows from which reading the consumed kilowatts should be calculated. These are the ones that will be included in the report as the start of the counter’s operation. For example, if at the beginning of the month it is 750, and at the end 900, then the difference between them, which is 150, is the consumed kilowatts. Multiplying them by the current tariff, we get the cash equivalent, which must be paid.

It is clear that the dial has its final limit, and this is usually 9999.9, after which the counter does not stop, but continues to rotate, moving to 0000.0. And if at the end of the month, when taking data, your meter readings become, for example, 0025.0, then to calculate it you will have to add one to this value not as a numerical equivalent, but as a sign. That is, when calculating, the final result will be 10025.0. And the last readings will need to be subtracted from it.

A little more and it will reset

How to take readings in a short period of time

Before taking readings from the electricity meter, for example, per minute, you need to find an inscription on the device that determines how many revolutions the meter must make in order to increase one kilowatt.
Typically for induction models this is 600 or 1200 rpm. There is a red mark on the wheel, which can be used to determine the rotation of one revolution. You visually count the number of revolutions per minute or over another period of time, thereby determining the power consumption. For example, if in one minute the wheel spins 300 times, then 300 / 600 = 0.5 kW.

How to take readings from an electronic electricity meter

In principle, taking readings of consumed electricity with electronic meters is exactly the same as with induction meters. The scoreboard displays numerical values that are updated at certain intervals. The calculation is carried out exactly the same. This process is carried out if a single-tariff system for using electricity is used.

Multi-tariff consumption of electric current is two tariffs that have a significant difference relative to the time of day. During the day it is larger, at night it is smaller. We won’t go into why this is being done and whether it is beneficial to the state, but we must point out that there are difficulties with taking testimony, although there is nothing complicated about it. You just need to figure out according to the instructions what and how to do.

Testimony must be recorded

Let's look at how to correctly take readings from electricity meters for different models. To do this, let's look at the Mercury brand.

Mercury-200 – taking data

Let’s immediately make a reservation that the Mercury-200 brand includes both single-tariff and multi-tariff models. The latter have modifications in the marking, namely 200.01, 200.02 or 200.03. But regardless of the type, readings are taken by pressing the “Enter” button, which is located on the instrument panel. It will just all depend on the number of button presses.

If the meter is used to account for one tariff, then readings are taken in the usual mode by pressing “Enter” once. The panel should display the designation T1. If accounting is carried out according to two tariffs, then “Enter” is pressed twice, where the amount of energy consumed according to the second tariff is also shown.

How to take Mercury-230 electricity meter readings

This is a multi-tariff device, which means you will have to take data strictly according to the instructions. So, to take meter readings for electricity at the maximum tariff, you need to press the “Enter” button once. A control mark and the inscription T1 will appear on the display. In this case, the screen will show the data of consumed electricity in kilowatt-hours. They need to be recorded.

Now, by pressing the button, we bring it to the T2 mark, where completely different indicators will be displayed on the display. And they must also be recorded. T1 is a day rate from 7.00 to 23.00, T2 is a night rate from 23.00 to 7.00. That is, when the question is raised about how to take day-night readings from the electricity meter, you must do exactly as described above.

Mercury 230

How to calculate electricity using a multi-tariff meter

Now we need to make payment calculations. For example, T1 showed 1800 kW, T2 – 200 kW. In general, this turns out to be 2000 kW. Next, you need to take old readings from last month. Let them be 1600 at T1 and 150 at T2. Total value 1750 kW.

You need to check if everything is correct:

  • 1800-1600=200;
  • 200-150=50;
  • 200+50=250;
  • Let's check: 2000-1750=250.

Now, regarding payment. The resulting difference in readings for each tariff is multiplied by its value. Here we mean in our example, this is 200 multiplied by the day rate, and 50 by the night rate. Then their total amount is taken for payment.

It is very convenient for yourself to keep such records in a journal.

Payment periodTypes of tariffs
T1T2Total
For the previous month16001501750
For the next month18002002000
Difference20050250

From this table, when calculating the amount, only two indicators are used in the “Difference” section - T1 and T2.

How to read data from the Energomer meter

In principle, all actions are exactly the same as with Mercury-230 devices. The only difference is the charging button. It is called “PRSM” on this counter. It should be noted that multi-tariff devices of this type belong to the category of new modern energy meters, therefore many brands are very similar in design, appearance and readings. Their only drawback is the high price of the product.

How to take readings from a Micron meter

A distinctive feature of taking readings from the Micron counter is that to do this you need to press one button. In principle, it is present on the scoreboard in a single form, there are no others. In this case, two “checkmarks” will appear on the screen, which will move along the panel. The last one shows the tariff zones. As soon as the checkmark goes to the required zone, numbers will appear on the screen. This is the electricity that is needed to calculate the payment.

The alignment of the ticks must be precise. For example, T1 and R+, T2 and R+. The photo below shows combinations in the first tariff zone.

The arrows show combinations in the T1 tariff zone

How to take readings from a Saiman meter

These electricity meters began to be installed in all regions when outdated induction models were replaced free of charge with new electronic ones. Therefore, the majority of the population uses them.

The device is simple. There are no buttons with which you can scroll through the necessary data. They themselves show on the screen with a certain frequency, so you have to wait until the number indicating the consumed kilowatts appears. The frequency of the numerical values is as follows: first the date is displayed, then the time, then the device number, then the gear ratio and at the very end “TOTAL”. In single-tariff meters, the necessary data is immediately displayed, in multi-tariff meters there is a sequence by zone: T1, T2, T3 and so on. The video below shows how to read electricity using a Saiman meter.

Three-phase meters - how to take readings

Firstly, three-phase electricity meters differ from single-phase ones only in the number of terminals (input and output). Such devices are not installed in apartments. They are usually used either in private homes, or in production, or in large buildings for various purposes that have one owner.

Readings are taken in the same way as in single-phase devices. Accounting and calculation are also carried out in the same way, multiplied by the tariff. There are induction models in this group, and electronic, single- and multi-tariff.

What is the difference between single-phase electricity meters and three-phase ones?

Electricity meter with remote reading

Not all owners of apartments and houses can take readings, pay and transfer data. Therefore, energy supply organizations propose installing special meters that themselves transmit data. The main task of the owner is to make the payment.

Purely structurally, these devices differ from conventional ones in that the display shows the day, night and general indicators in a certain sequence. The difference between readings is 15 seconds.

In addition to the fact that all indicators are sent to the energy supply company via the Internet, and this is general data, as well as their analysis, there are additional options:

  • accounting in the mode of different tariff zones;
  • connecting and disconnecting the consumer remotely;
  • forwarding notifications.

Advantages of meters of this type:

  • Electricity consumption readings are recorded every day. They are always in memory, which is very important when resolving conflict situations.
  • It is possible to take data remotely via the Internet. This concerns primarily consumers. For example, while on vacation or a business trip.
  • Accuracy of readings.
  • Accuracy of calculation when changing tariffs.
  • Safety in the sense that the meter can be completely turned off remotely. This is very convenient if you forgot to turn off some electrical appliance in your house or apartment.

Attention! If payment for consumed electricity has not been made for a long time, then the supplier company can unilaterally cut off the power to the building, house or apartment.

Electricity meter and reading module

It should be added that today some manufacturers of meters of this type provide them with special readers. They are used to withdraw money and top up the balance from a plastic card.

How to transmit readings

Previously, this was done by inspectors who went around houses and apartments, taking readings. Since 2012, a new decree was issued, where property owners were obliged to take data from electricity meters themselves and transfer it to energy sales organizations. But this does not mean that there will be no control on the part of the supplier. Its representatives can collect data once a quarter, but at least once every six months. So outside control is still carried out.

Many people are interested in the question of what electricity meter readings need to be transmitted. There is only one indicator - the consumption of electric current, plus the period during which this consumption was produced.

Data transfer deadlines

The new rules do not contain any specific norms. That is, a person can submit testimony at any time. Although in the old rules this was clearly established. The only point that you need to know is that if the indicators have not been transmitted within 6 months, the energy supply organization will carry out its own calculations taking into account the average electricity consumption for previous periods.

That's why electricity providers have developed a network of options to make it convenient for consumers to transfer data no matter where they are.

One way to transfer data

Where to transfer data

There are three options:

  • Bring the readings taken from the meter to any of the energy sales centers.
  • Call the call center and leave your data to the operator. By the way, they are open from 8.00 to 20.00.
  • Using the Internet. To do this, you will have to register on the company’s website, open your account, where you can enter the electricity meter readings.

Anti-magnetic fillings

Since Soviet times, citizens have been trying to save on current consumption by stealing it. Illegal actions, of course, brought criminal liability, which did not stop all citizens. Therefore, energy sales organizations install anti-magnetic seals on meters, which in appearance are similar to a regular label.

Anti-magnetic seal, where and what is located on it

The bottom line is that many are trying to stop the operation of the meter using a magnet, influencing electronic parts with a magnetic field. So, in the magnetic seal there is a sensor installed in the form of a capsule filled with a special liquid that contains a dye. If a magnetic effect has taken place, the substance spreads throughout the capsule, coloring the liquid. This is a signal for controllers, who immediately draw up an act.

Attention! It is impossible to tear off the label without damaging it.

How much does it cost to seal a meter?

  • If an old meter is replaced with a new one or the device is installed in an apartment (house) for the first time, the seal is installed free of charge.
  • If the meter requires repair, then after repair, the installation of a seal is subject to payment. Its value is determined by the energy sales organization depending on the region.

If the seal is broken or torn, will there be a fine?

There are two situations to consider here.

  • If it is discovered that the seal has been broken, then you must immediately contact the energy sales organization. The controller needs to explain why this happened. If the damage was discovered immediately, then no fines will follow.
  • If the inspector himself discovered a broken seal, and besides, the property owner cannot explain the reason, then most likely a large fine will follow. In addition, the controller will calculate the average readings for the entire period that he did not check. Therefore, my advice is to periodically inspect your metering devices to ensure they are working properly and have a seal.

Violation of the integrity of the seal is a big fine

In principle, the question of how to take and read electricity meter readings is not the most difficult. But if you have any difficulties or additional questions, we are ready to discuss them with you.
