Barbecue ovens for a gazebo or summer kitchen

A gazebo with a fireplace is an ambitious and interesting idea for a country resident. Any structure involving controlled fire is quite complex and expensive to build. Nevertheless, it brings comfort and warmth into the room (literally and figuratively), so for some this option is considered possible.

Important : many people understand a fireplace as a structure differently. In this publication I will focus on options that have 3 functions:

  1. Decorative made of brick. Used to decorate a room, the fire is lit for aesthetics and to slightly warm the room (if it is closed).
  2. For heating and decoration - a long-burning stove with a transparent door.
  3. For cooking and decoration - in this case, the fireplace is a grill, barbecue and oven combined. Most often it is confused with a furnace complex.

Decorative fireplace - small, beautiful, cozy

This option is rarely used in gazebos. In this case, this fireplace is a common decorative element, for which you need:

  • Build an additional foundation.
  • Make masonry.
  • Install a chimney.

Additionally, you still need to periodically clean off soot and remove ash. On the other hand, we get a solid attribute of the interior, flooding which can create a wonderful atmosphere - silence around and the sound of crackling firewood, isn’t that wonderful?

“You can’t even fry meat” is the main argument of people who abandoned conventional decor in favor of a fireplace-barbecue for cooking. Therefore, most people are not willing to invest so heavily in an outdoor fire just to enjoy it indoors.

In this case, an outdoor barbecue is enough to fry meat, where the fire is burning and the coals are crackling.

Recommendations for choosing a location for the stove

The location where the stove will be located largely depends on the type of structure. If this is an enclosed garden house, then the device is made angular, placed in the center or adjacent to one of the walls of the room.

For open construction, the following should be taken into account:

  1. Direction of the wind . If there is a house nearby, the stove must be installed on the leeward side.
  2. Presence of trees and other shrubs nearby. Constant smoke and heat will lead to the gradual withering of green plants. And dry trees are flammable and fire hazardous.
  3. A gazebo with a stove should not be located next to outbuildings, woodpiles, or a gas pipeline. The minimum distance from residential buildings is 5 m.

When installing a heating and cooking device in a closed gazebo, you must:

  1. Make sure that it does not take up much space, and there is free space around it without furniture. The minimum distance from the firebox to the nearest decorative element must be at least 3 m and 1 m from the walls.
  2. Keep in mind that the larger the size of the furnace, the greater the load it places on the building.
  3. Ensure correct installation of the chimney pipe for good draft and avoidance of smoke inside the room.

Having decided on the location, this point must be reflected in the exact design of the future structure, which the owners themselves can develop for free or by seeking the help of an architect.

Long burning fireplace stove

An interesting option for indoor spaces. Thanks to its special design, this device will not only illuminate the room with fire, but also warm it from the inside. I would not say that such installations look extremely aesthetically pleasing and always “fit” into the gazebo, but they have their advantages:

  • Do not take up much space;
  • They cost much less than brick fireplaces;
  • They really warm up - this is a strong argument for a closed gazebo.

I initially did not consider this format for this article. Most likely, most are considering installing a brick fireplace in their gazebo, but decided to leave it as an addition. Moreover, some options look very impressive. They are shown in the photo below.

Types of stoves

There are many possibilities to functionally equip a summer kitchen . Any owner will find a suitable option for a finished structure or drawing for further work.

At the initial stage, it is worth deciding on the choice of the desired model , since each has its own functional features:

  1. A grill is the simplest type of structure for cooking meat. It can be portable or stationary depending on the preferences of the owner. A portable barbecue attracts with its mobility, and a stationary one with the ability to additionally equip it with a smokehouse or sink. The barbecue stove is made of brick and is ideal for a small gazebo. The design is based on a container for coal and metal stops for skewers.
  2. Barbecue is a compact and easy-to-use oven. Thanks to its small size, it fits in the center of the gazebo. A stationary barbecue oven is practically no different in appearance from a barbecue. Its peculiarity is that food is cooked on a grill, so in addition to meat, you can fry vegetables. Despite the ease of use, such an oven requires more careful care, since the grate is more difficult to wash than skewers. Another feature is that the juiciest meat is obtained on the barbecue. By frying on the grill, you can add more spices and sauces to the meat or prepare a side dish of vegetables at the same time. In addition to meat, you can also cook fish on the barbecue.
  3. A smokehouse is a structure that is mounted in the main oven. It serves as an additional function and expands culinary capabilities. The smokehouse is installed in large-scale gazebos with large stoves, since it requires a solid foundation, preferably a slab one. The design consists of a tray above which there are hooks for meat and fish. The bottom is sprinkled with sawdust, the smoke from which permeates the meat, giving it an appetizing aroma. The result is delicious homemade products that cannot be replaced by store-bought smoked products. A distinctive feature of a stove with a smokehouse is a high chimney equipped with hangers, shelves or hooks for smoking. When combined with a stove, a universal complex is obtained. It should be noted that the addition of a smokehouse is not a cheap pleasure.
  4. A fireplace is a stove for heating a room. Most often, a fireplace stove is installed in winter or covered gazebos as a decorative element. But summer options are no exception. The fireplace differs from all other types in that it does not involve cooking food. The presence of a fireplace creates a cozy homely atmosphere and allows you to use the gazebo on cold winter evenings.

Attention! The classic design is the least popular stove option for a summer kitchen. It is rarely installed in gazebos due to its complex design and large dimensions, but the mini version of such a stove is in great demand. It can be improved by combining it with a grill, grill or barbecue.

Fireplace with barbecue, barbecue and stove functions

This option is much more popular among the population. The fire is burning, the coals are smoldering, the meat is fried, and pilaf can also be cooked on the stove, if the oven complex is designed for this. At first glance, there are only advantages. But, on the other hand, there is one noticeable and main disadvantage.

A fireplace like this for cooking will cost a lot of money. In some cases, it is more expensive than the gazebo itself.

This is where the thought process begins: “Do I really need such a complex? Isn't the grill enough to grill shish kebab? Maybe put it aside for a car..." People whose budget is limited think approximately in this format.

Which option is better to choose?

A fireplace with barbecue and stove, as already mentioned, is quite expensive, and its construction is not always appropriate. And yet such construction can be very appropriate when there is a specific goal.

I was convinced of this by the example of Nikolai Tarasov, who built a closed gazebo with a fireplace, barbecue and stove in one and was satisfied with his construction (read more in the article - Do-it-yourself closed gazebo with barbecue, barbecue, stove: material calculation, photo, video ).

The construction of such a complex is advisable when there is a specific need for its use.

The main goal is cooking with his wife, as they really enjoy this process. Therefore, if you are also a cooking lover and are ready to invest in the construction of a large complex for this, this is your chance.

Leave only at least a little open fire in the stove complex, otherwise there will be nothing left of the fireplace
