A recess in a small apartment is an excellent opportunity to expand the living space, organize a dining area, a place to relax or a work area. The most practical and convenient option, perhaps, would be to equip a sleeping place. Placing a bed in a niche creates a cozy and calm atmosphere in the recreation area, hides the bed from prying eyes, and frees up additional space in the center of the room. To ensure that all zones are in harmony with each other, when thinking about how to arrange the sleeping area, it is necessary to take into account the design and style as a whole.
Niche for the living room - purpose
The expressiveness of living room furniture does not make it indispensable in arranging a themed room.
Modern man is tired of the chaos that surrounds him outside, so he is not at all alien to order and space inside. A niche allows you to satisfy these two requirements.
Moreover, the corresponding design is universal, since it can be useful for performing the following tasks:
- Storing things and placing equipment;
- Zoning of one space;
- Decoration of the plane and the interior as a whole.
If in the first case a niche is made in the wall in the living room, then the second involves the construction of a plasterboard partition with internal sections between two conventional zones.
And if the living room has a sleeping area on the second tier, then the latter is arranged using a plasterboard base with a niche.
The third technique is to create a themed console with open shelves where you can place vases, lamps, figurines and other accessories. But the niche can be large if it is created under the fireplace.
Examples of one-room apartments with a separated bedroom
The most difficult task facing owners of one-room apartments is how to separate a bedroom in a one-room apartment.
The simplest option is when an ordinary sofa is used as a sleeping place, and during the day it is turned into a relaxation area, a branch of the dining room and a place for meeting guests. This solution has many disadvantages, since if family members live on different schedules, do not get up and go to bed at the same time, then the sleeping person will disturb others and vice versa.
The problem with a fenced-off bedroom needs to be solved radically. If there is a niche in the room that matches the size of the bed, then this is the ideal correct zoning of the bedroom in a one-room apartment, which does not require additional costs.

Rooms with niches are found in some old apartments, and in new buildings you can arrange them yourself during renovation work.
This is important: to ensure the comfort of a sleeping place in a niche, you need to equip it with a separate lighting source and ensure that two people can get out of bed and lie down without touching each other.
Niche for the living room - finished effect
The usefulness of using a niche is difficult to overestimate. With a competent design approach, thematic deepening:
- Saves usable space for easy movement and creating space;
- Hides utility lines and irregularities;
- Smoothes open furniture (sofa, chest of drawers) if it is built into a thematic opening;
- Gives the entire space original shapes;
- Creates a magical lighting effect when the lamps are embedded deep into itself.
With such features, the hall definitely ceases to seem banal. Moreover, niches made of plasterboard in the living room can migrate to other rooms - the bedroom, hallway, dressing room, corridor, and even the bathroom.
Correct zoning of a one-room apartment
Since one room in an apartment is a multifunctional room, the design of a one-room apartment involves zoning the bedroom in order to allocate space for sleeping, working and relaxing, i.e. ensure that the sleeping place, computer or work desk and TV are located at a distance from each other.
You can choose a place for a bedroom in such an apartment according to two opposing principles:
- Place the bed in the quietest corner, farthest from windows and doors. This solution will allow you to sleep peacefully and for a long time in the morning or enjoy a nap during the day.
- There are people, and there are many of them, who need a constant supply of fresh air for a restful sleep, i.e. the bed should be close to the window. This option is more difficult to implement, but is also possible.

Tip: The only place that is absolutely not suitable for arranging a sleeping place is the area opposite the door. Such unsuccessful zoning will not allow the patient to sleep peacefully or lie in bed.
